    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Understand, and actively represent / promote the beliefs and priorities of the Appleton Park & Recreation Department youth sports program (skill development, sportsmanship & lifelong enjoyment of the game). * Interpret and enforce National Federation basketball game rules along with local Appleton Park & Recreation Department league rule modifications. * Supervise and control the general conduct of all participants. * Identify violations of game rules and impose the appropriate penalties. * Make decisions on situations or occurrences not specifically addressed in said rules. * Maintain a positive environment using encouraging means when interacting with coaches, participants, and spectators. * Instruct players regarding the rules and structure of basketball. * Submit all necessary paperwork (game results, pay sheet, etc) at the conclusion of shift. * Knowledge and understanding of the rules of basketball. * Ability to execute common officiating skills and techniques. * Ability to positively supervise and control the game "atmosphere". * Ability to identify "teachable moments" and integrate instruction into the management of the game. * Ability to establish and maintain positive, courteous, working relationships with coworkers, coaches and the public. * Ability to work accurately under pressure. * Wear proper officiating attire per the National Federation basketball rules and the Appleton Park & Recreation Department league dress requirements. * Ability to keep accurate records and complete necessary paperwork. * Adhere to City of Appleton and Appleton Park & Recreation Department policies and procedures. APRD Youth Basketball Program will serve children in grades Kindergarten through 6th Grade, and will take place on Saturday mornings, January 10, 2026 through March 14, 2026. Training for officials will take place in December 2025. Certification is helpful but not required. Selected candidates may be hired at any one of the levels listed below, dependent on experience and ability to meet minimum requirements. Sport Official I (Grade 2) - $13.21-15.23 /hr; Minimum requirements = must currently be a high school student. Sport Official II (Grade 4) - $17.27-19.29/hr; Minimum requirements = two (2) years of basketball experience. Sport Official III (Grade 5)- $19.30-22.33/hr; Minimum requirements = high school graduate / GED and four (4) years of officiating experience. Serves as a mentor to other officials, and has earned the respect of participants, coaches and the public through past work in Appleton Park & Recreation Department programs. As our Pavement and Bridge Program Manager, you'll take on advanced-level professional engineering and project supervision work in both office and field environments, supporting the planning, design, management, and construction of a wide variety of public works projects. You'll receive assignments from a higher-level engineer and apply your independent professional judgment to define each project, determine the best methods to address complex situations, assign project components to lower-level staff, and professionally certify the results. Working under the general direction and coordination of a higher-level professional engineer, you will also regularly supervise lower-level staff, including professional engineers. This position manages specific individual projects as assigned and manages the City Engineering Division Programs for: 1) Pavement Management; 2) Pavement Maintenance; 3) Railroad Crossings and Railroad Quiet Zones; 4) City of Madison Bridge Program. It is our goal to hire a licensed Professional Engineer who is certified by the Wisconsin DOT certification for Bridge Safety Inspection as the Inspection Team Leader. Project Manager for Railroad Quiet Zones, Railroad crossing ratings and improvements * Establish the proposed quiet zone priority map. * Determine the estimated cost to implement quiet zones in the City for the capital budget. * Coordinate meetings with the Federal Railroad, operating railroad, WISDOT, signal maintenance engineer and City staff to determine what improvements are needed to implement quiet zones in accordance with Federal regulations. * Prepare contracts and submit all federally required applications to implement quiet zones.
