City Of Ceres company history timeline

1867

The Daniel C. Whitmore family was considered the first family of Ceres and, with two other founders, John Service and Cassius Warner, settled in Ceres in 1867.

1870

Whitmore built the first home in Ceres in 1870.

1918

On February 25, 1918, the City of Ceres was incorporated and in August of the same year, the City Council voted to hire its first official Marshall, T. F. Perrin, at a monthly salary of $5.00.

1920

The items range from old police identifications to old service belts and old badges from the 1920s.

1934

By 1934, the Police Department had expanded and was in need of a Chief of Police.

1947

1957

Chief Cunningham, February 1957 - beginning of his tenure as Chief

1959

The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training was established by the Legislature in 1959 to set minimum selection and training standards for California law enforcement.

1983

Pete Peterson followed Chief Cunningham as Chief in 1983 and it was under his leadership that the Department was modernized, including our current two story police facility, with state-of-the-art technology that still stands today.

1999

Chief Peterson also developed many of our special units, such as: K-9, Traffic and SWAT. Peterson served until 1999.

2008

A: The display case in the lobby has been there since 2008 and contains police memorabilia.

2018
