H.E.A.T. (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) Officer General Description: The South Fulton Police Department Traffic Unit is currently accepting applicants for the H.E.A.T. (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) Officer. These positions are designed for highly motivated officers dedicated to DUI detection and aggressive and distracted driving enforcement.Applicants must be willing to work primarily 6:00 PM - 4:00 AM , with occasional schedule adjustments to 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM as operational needs require. Essential Functions: Enforce the traffic laws of the State of Georgia Focus on DUI enforcement and impaired driving investigations Enforce distracted driving violations Enforce seatbelt compliance Enforce child safety restraint laws Participate in monthly traffic safety details Work approximately 80% of assigned hours during nighttime shifts and weekends Travel to other jurisdictions to assist with vehicle checkpoints and traffic safety education events Performs other related duties as required. The background investigation includes but is not limited to the following: polygraph examination, fingerprinting, criminal/driver's history, and employment history. Upon an offer of employment, a psychological interview and a medical examination will be required. Such examination shall be administered prior to entrance to the basic course. The law enforcement council may change or modify such examination and shall establish the criteria for determining satisfactory performance on such examination. Peace officers who do not perform satisfactorily on the examination shall be ineligible to retake such examination for a period of six (6) months after an unsuccessful attempt. The provisions of this paragraph establish only the minimum requirements of academy entrance examinations for peace officer candidates in this state; each law enforcement unit is encouraged to provide such additional requirements and any pre-employment examination as it deems necessary and appropriate.
