City of Cuyahoga Falls company history timeline

1800

The first drug store in Cuyahoga Falls was the "Heath Drug Store" which was opened in the 1800's on Front Street near Portage Trail.

1826

In 1826, the United States Post Office asked the village to reconsider.

1837

The first mayor was Henry Newbery and he was elected on April 4, 1837.

1840

When Summit County was created by the Ohio legislature in 1840, it opened the question of where the county seat would be located.

1915

8, 1915: High Level Bridge opens

1940

The afternoon of July 31, 1940, Front Street near Hudson Drive was the site of the Doodlebug crash.

1959

Still, voters did not adopt the mayor/council/charter form of government until 1959.

1980

In the ’50’s and 60’s CFO was where many people who did not want to reside in Akron moved to… CFO began to change especially in the 1980’s… CFO has grown by annexing township land to the north.

1985

The 1985 merger of the City of Cuyahoga Falls and Northampton Township, the first statutory merger of an incorporated and an unincorporated area in Ohio, in many ways shaped the future of the city and moved it into the 21st Century.

1986

On January 1, 1986, Cuyahoga Falls and Northampton Township became the first two communities in the history of the State of Ohio to successfully merge by voter approval.

1995

At the time, Buckeye was just finding its niche in Ohio’s tax credit housing program. It all started in 1995, with six wooded acres and a $300,000 mortgage.

1996

In December 1996, one month after voters rejected Pleasant Meadows by a large majority, appellate judges ruled the petitions legal.

2000

Pleasant Meadows was finished by 2000.

2002

April 24, 2017, Cuyahoga Falls city officials broke ground on the re-opening of Front Street in the Downtown Transformation Project.
