City Of Del City company history timeline

1948

By 1948, when the city was incorporated, there were approximately 582 units, 75% of which had been constructed by George Epperly Better Built Homes.

1949

The City Planning Commission issued a comprehensive plan in 1949, estimating the population growth would continue to increase exponentially, and they were right.

In 1949 Epperly was recognized by the National Association of Home Builders for Del City's "soundness of design and construction, and suitability of the project to its location."

1951

In 1951 Del City offered to annex Carter Park to save it from annexation by Oklahoma City.

1954

Del City officials persevered, and in 1954 a merger agreement was reached allowing Del City to absorb Carter Park.

1958

In 1958 the scenario was repeated with Midway Village.

1959

In February 1959 Del City adopted a charter and a council-manager form of town government.

1963

The initial offer was turned down, but in 1963 an agreement allowed Del City to absorb Midway Village.

1964

Del City having expanded to its greatest possible physical limits in 1964, Joined Midwest City and Norman in underwriting the Little River Reservoir Project that became Lake Thunderbird.

The Oklahoma Legislature was reapportioned in 1964.

Midwest Trophy Manufacturing, located at 3405 Southeast Twenty-ninth Street, began in Dave Smith's garage in Del City in 1971.

The Del City Historical Society was organized in 1975 with Andy Evans as its first president.

On May 3, 1999, Del City took a significant hit when an F5 tornado passed through the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.

In December 2009, a record number of Oklahoma City voters went to the polls and voted YES to continue Oklahoma City's bright future through the $777 million MAPS 3 initiative.

2010

The temporary one-cent sales tax began April 1, 2010, and will be in effect for 93 months.
