City of Dublin, Ohio - Government company history timeline

1810

John Sells, one of the brothers, platted part of his land to establish a village in 1810.

1818

In 1818, he had a portion of this land surveyed into lots and offered a new town for sale.

1833

When the National Road reached Columbus in 1833 and the canals were completed, early Dublinites shipped products like lumber, flour, and bacon to Columbus and even further south to Kentucky.

1843

He married Marilla Sells, granddaughter of John Sells, in 1843.

1867

Fletcher Coffman house construction began, finished in 1867.

1881

On the heels of this growth, Dublin's stores and cottage industries continued to flourish and Dublin was ultimately incorporated as a village in 1881.

1889

Fred Wing had the first exchange and carried messages to people receiving the calls. (Dublin Chamber of Commerce information says the date for phones should be 1889.)

1898

The Ebey and Sells mill operated until 1898; the last owner was Joseph Corbin.

1919

Memorial Auditorium addition was built on to the school building known as the “1919 building”.

1944

Harry Whitaker was Mayor (until 1944).Dublin storeowners showed movies on High Street on Saturday nights, projecting them on the side of a building when weather permitted.

1970

Dublin's population increase from 681 residents in 1970 to more than 35,000 residents today can be attributed to the completion of the I-270 outerbelt, the development of Muirfield Village Golf Club, and the arrival of many corporate headquarters such as Wendy's International and Ashland, Inc.

1972

Jack Nicklaus selected the site that became labeled Muirfield from among several in Central Ohio, beginning a six-year process of land acquisition and development; construction began in 1972.

1987

The quality of Dublin’s commercial construction was established early with the development of Metro Center and the Midwestern Volkswagen “MidVo” complex (the buildings now are part of OCLC). With rapid business and residential growth, Dublin officially became a city in August 1987.

2000

2004

In 2004 the City of Dublin wrote a history of the village and city, “Dublin’s Journey”. The book tells many of the characteristics that contribute to the character of our community including landscaping regulations put in place when the village was in a forming state of development.
