City of Falls Church company history timeline

1948

A consequent drive to become an independent city began and was approved by the legislature in 1948.

In 1948, the town was finally incorporated as the City of Falls Church finally attaining the status of a city with a county level government.

1952

The firm was incorporated under its present name in 1952.

1954

Electric Boat continued to build submarines and surface ships, and in 1954 it launched the Nautilus, the world’s first nuclear-powered submarine.

1982

In 1982, I-66 opened, skirting just north of the City.

1986

Metrorail opened in 1986 with both Falls Church Metro stations located just outside of City limits.

1998

Another division, Information Systems and Technology, was created in 1998 and is focused on defense electronics.

1999

The Falls Church City Council did not formally repeal the law until February of 1999.

The arched monument was dedicated in 1999 and stands 14 feet tall and has two plaques commemorating the residents of Tinner Hill and the NAACP.

In 1999, Falls Church ended the 20th century, celebrating the 300th anniversary of the community with a year of Tricentennial Celebration events.

2011

Thanks to rapid development and sound governance, the city has the lowest level of poverty and was named by Forbes in 2011 as the richest in the US.
