1800

Historic Landmark-Taille De Noyer, built 1800 Link

1821

The Old St Ferdinand’s Shrine (a former Roman Catholic church) was built in 1821.

1823

Jesuits from France came to the area in 1823 at the invitation of Bishop DuBourg and establish the St Stanislaus Seminary.

1842

Historic Landmark-Baptiste G. Aubuchon House, built 1842

1857

In 1857 when the Missouri State Legislature changed Florissant’s form of government from trusteeship to mayor-council he became the first mayor under that Special Charter which lasted 106 years.

The following individuals influenced our rich history prior to the 1857 charter;

1866

Founded in 1866 primarily for German Catholics and still thriving with a strong parish and parochial school.

1867

Historic Landmark-John B. Myers House, built 1867-69

1873

Historic Landmark, Hendel's Market, built 1873

1878

Historic Landmark-Narrow Gauge Railroad Station, built 1878

1893

Sacred Heart Catholic Church-Florissant Missouri, built 1893

1906

His remains were not repatriated to Penn until 1906 when he was buried in the same churchyard near Franklin and other fellow signers.

1939

Settled by the French in about 1785, it was called St Ferdinand by the Spanish and was officially renamed Florissant (from the French fleurissant, “flowering”) in 1939.

1955

His plaque says in part “ Jay Russell opened BJ’s Bar and Restaurant in 1955.

1956

St Louis Christian College was opened in 1956.

1996

FOTP was incorporated as a 501c3 in August of 1996 and is a group of citizens, businesses and government officials who believe that Old Town Florissant is an attractive area where people can experience a stable, healthy community with a rich cultural heritage.

2012

In 2012, Florissant was ranked 76 in the top 100 list of Money Magazine’s Best Places to Live– America’s Best Small Cities.
