The Old City Hall was built in 1840 on land donated to the city by Samuel Hanna at Barr and Berry streets.
Fort Wayne's first Christmas tree appeared in 1840 at the home of Doctor Schmidt.
The local economy was aided by the arrival of the Wabash and Erie Canal in 1843.
The oldest college in Fort Wayne is Concordia Theological Seminary, founded in 1846.
1848 saw the first telegraph line along the canal.
The first public school opened in 1853, founded by Hugh McCulloch, Charles Case, and William Stewart.
In 1871, the National League of Professional Base Ball Players was formed and its first game was between the Fort Wayne Kekiongas and the Cleveland Forest Citys on May 4, 1871.
In 1871 Doctor Theodore Horton introduced a hand-operated washing machine and later manufactured the first electrically powered domestic washing machine.

After much fundraising, they purchased property in the late 1960’s and sought a fort builder.
The waters, spanned by 21 bridges, divide the city into three parts. It was attacked and taken by the English (1760) and then by Miami and Ottawas under Pontiac (1763). A log stockade constructed in 1794 by General Anthony Wayne after the Battle of Fallen Timbers, near what is now Toledo, Ohio (reconstructed 1975), gave the town its name.
The Historic Fort Wayne you can explore today during historic reenactments, demonstrations, and educational events, was built during the United States Bicentennial year of 1976, and has since been renovated.
The current church was built in 1999 on the site of the original.
