City of Gahanna company history timeline
Located directly across Granville Street from Gahanna and also along the banks of the Big Walnut Creek, Bridgeport was founded in 1853 by Jesse Baughman, a former Franklin County Commissioner.
In March of 1881, 55 citizens of Gahanna petitioned Franklin County to incorporate the village.
The Village then held its first mayoral election and on October 6, 1881, swore in its first mayor, L. John Neiswander.
By 1894 the two congregations had outgrown the original church which was then dismantled.
The second Peace Lutheran Church, now known as the Olde Gahanna Sanctuary, was constructed in 1895 using bricks from the first building at a cost of roughly $8,500.
Here, they were highly successful, winning many top honors at the St Louis World's Fair in 1904, and later opening a second studio in Munich.
By the time the Von Gerichten brothers parted ways in the 1930's, their company had created an estimated 1,800 stained glass windows for about 850 churches across the country.
