    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Assists with the maintenance and repair of the City's water distribution system and associated facilities. * Installs and repairs water service lines, water meters, meter boxes, main line valves, and fire hydrants. * Assists with the installation of water service taps. * Records readings from water meters using a hand-held computer. * Takes manual readings from water meters and records data accurately. * Responds and coordinates with construction companies within City limits on current projects. * Responds, investigates, and acts on customer inquiries and complaints. * Operates heavy machinery, construction equipment, and commercial vehicles utilized in the operation and maintenance of the water distribution system. * Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS * High School Diploma or GED. * One (1) year of work experience that includes semi-skilled mechanical/maintenance responsibilities; including contact with the public. * Any combination of education and experience totaling two (2) years may be considered. * Valid South Carolina Driver's License.     Job Summary Under regular direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies, operates a variety of regular-drive solid waste vehicles (e.g., Rear Load Garbage Truck, Clam Truck, Roll-Off Truck and Flatbed Truck) in order to collect and dispose of residential solid waste and recycling materials. Transports materials to designated transfer station or disposal facility. Complies with all safety guidelines including inspection of equipment, use of personal protective equipment, following safe practices, and reporting safety issues to the appropriate supervisor(s). Assists other employees, departments, and interact with residents. Works weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights depending on event schedules. Essential Functions % of Time * Operate Solid Waste Heavy Equipment: Operate assigned vehicle through residential and high traffic areas. When operating Clam Truck, utilize and control a main boom/crane, telescopic extension, grapple bucket with mechanical levers in performance of duties. When operating a Roll-Off Truck, deliver empty roll-off containers to proper locations and pickup full roll-off containers for proper disposal utilizing hydraulic control levers and hooking and unhooking winch cable serval times throughout the day. Manages, coordinates, and implements programs and projects that support the retention and expansion of businesses in the City of Greenville. Creates and executes an industry-standard Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) program to enhance the continued growth and success of local existing companies, such that it is efficient in terms of implementation, and sustainable over the coming years. Schedule and coordinate local industry visits and survey meetings to include a range of companies in each existing industry sector as well as related industry clusters with commonalities (i.e. newly relocated, specific demographic locations, etc.). In collaboration with the Research Team, identify trends within each industry sector and potential issues impeding growth. Work alongside other departments to address needs and/or trends within the region based on the results generated from company surveys. Identify potential target companies for relocation efforts through the BRE visits and pass to the Economic Development Recruitment Team members.
