    Under regular direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies, serves as a relief driver operating trolley bus to cover shifts or provide assistance as needed. Operates a trolley bus on a scheduled route through light to heavy City traffic, for the purpose of carrying passengers in a safe manner and in accordance with City, county, state, and federal laws, as well as City rules and policies. Assists passengers with disabilities as needed while safely performing operation procedures. Monitors trolley, weather conditions, and safety of passengers. Essential Functions % of Time * Serve as Relief Driver: Fill in when when necessary to cover shifts or provide assistance. Operate trolley bus in a safe, proficient manner by applying brakes, starting and stopping engine. Comply with all City, county, state, and federal traffic rules, regulations, laws, and procedures. Assist passengers with disabilities onto and off the wheelchair lift, operate lift/ramp, and secure wheelchairs as required. Adhere to the Greenlink Operations Handbook. Ensure Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) system is logged in. Ensure driver area is clean at the end of each shift. Evacuate passengers in need during emergency situations. Assist in the training of new drivers as assigned. Actively participate in the reporting of safety issues and concerns that are observed during the course of essential job functions. * Perform Customer Service: Provide information in a courteous manner to passengers regarding routes, schedules, and transfers. Make public address announcements in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations. Act as a front-line point of contact to ensure delivery of quality customer service. Ensure an adequate supply of transfers for the customers. * Maintain Schedule and Count Passengers: Operate the trolley bus on a scheduled route in a manner that provides for the maximum possible safety to passengers while maintaining the scheduled time points. Effectively utilize paddles, manifests and other information, to follow routes and meet time points. Coordinate detour, accident and incident information to radio dispatch, and respond to instructions given. Count passengers on a trip-by-trip basis. * Monitor Physical Condition of Vehicle Perform Inspections, and File Reports: Observe all conditions of vehicle while driving including lights, mirrors, door, fare box, brake pressure, tire condition, heater, and/or air conditioner. Report any mechanical problem immediately. Comply with all state and local laws pertaining to the operation of the vehicle. Safely and efficiently operate equipment on trolley bus, including fare boxes, wheelchair lifts, radio, and emergency equipment. Assure the cleanliness of the interior and seating area. Conduct and document a thorough pre-trip inspection of the vehicle prior to operation on a daily basis as per Greenlink and state regulations. Comply with all company safety rules and operate assigned vehicles. Complete post-trip inspection at the end of each shift. File necessary reports in case of an accident or incident with assigned vehicle or an injury to passengers and operators. Submit verbal and written reports on accidents or incidents required. Serve as a subject matter expert on Greenlink's Safety Committee as required. Perform other duties as assigned.     The City is offering a Sign-On Bonus for Bus Operators in Training: $500 with first paycheck and 2% of gross earnings during first year of employment at first anniversary. Brief Description of the Job This is an entry-level trainee position intended for individuals with no, to less than a year of, professional driving experience. Individuals already in possession of a South Carolina Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will complete a 6-week training program including both classroom and hands-on training intended to provide the essential skills and knowledge required to operate a transit bus safely and independently upon program completion. Individuals who do not already possess a CDL will undergo additional training for a total of 12 weeks and will be required to obtain a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) within 3 weeks of hire and the CDL license within 8 weeks of hire. The purpose of this position is to develop and prepare trainees for promotion to Bus Operator. To successfully complete the program, trainees must demonstrate proficiency and understanding in the following areas: Federal, State, City, and department rules and regulations; inspections, reports and documentation; bus and passenger safety; customer service; routes and directions; and driving. Failure to demonstrate proficiency and understating in all areas at designated evaluation points will result in removal from the training program. Essential Functions Obtain CDL License: Complete CDL training program, to include classroom study and hands-on driving instruction. Must test and successfully pass Commercial License Permit (CLP) exam within 3 weeks of hire. Must test and successfully obtain CDL within 8 weeks of hire. Learn and perform advanced maneuver techniques for driving a Class B transit vehicle that include turning, parallel parking, alley docking, off-set backing, and straight-line backing.     Job Summary Under regular direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies, operates a variety of regular-drive solid waste vehicles (e.g., Rear Load Garbage Truck, Clam Truck, Roll-Off Truck and Flatbed Truck) in order to collect and dispose of residential solid waste and recycling materials. Transports materials to designated transfer station or disposal facility. Complies with all safety guidelines including inspection of equipment, use of personal protective equipment, following safe practices, and reporting safety issues to the appropriate supervisor(s). Assists other employees, departments, and interact with residents. Works weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights depending on event schedules. Essential Functions % of Time * Operate Solid Waste Heavy Equipment: Operate assigned vehicle through residential and high traffic areas. When operating Clam Truck, utilize and control a main boom/crane, telescopic extension, grapple bucket with mechanical levers in performance of duties. When operating a Roll-Off Truck, deliver empty roll-off containers to proper locations and pickup full roll-off containers for proper disposal utilizing hydraulic control levers and hooking and unhooking winch cable serval times throughout the day. Manages, coordinates, and implements programs and projects that support the retention and expansion of businesses in the City of Greenville. Creates and executes an industry-standard Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) program to enhance the continued growth and success of local existing companies, such that it is efficient in terms of implementation, and sustainable over the coming years. Builds relationships with local businesses, address their needs, and identify opportunities for growth and expansion.Essential Functions Essential Functions % of Time * Manage Fundraising and Investor Relations: Manage all activities related to fund development, donor cultivation, major giving, annual giving, events, grant seeking, and capital campaigns for the GCEDC, with appropriate GCEDC team support. Schedule and coordinate local industry visits and survey meetings to include a range of companies in each existing industry sector as well as related industry clusters with commonalities (i.e. newly relocated, specific demographic locations, etc.). Driver's License Requirements * Valid South Carolina Class B CDL at hire, or the equivalent CDL from their state of residence. * Valid South Carolina Class A Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) within three (3) weeks of hire, or the equivalent CLP from their state of residence. * Valid South Carolina Class A CDL with air brake provision and tanker endorsement within three (3) months of hire, or the equivalent CDL from their state of residence. * Please be advised: Applicants who do not intend to relocate to South Carolina, must reside in a neighboring State (Georgia or North Carolina) and must meet the same CDL requirements as residents of South Carolina. In addition, employees residing in a neighboring state are required to provide to the City of Greenville an annual Motor Vehicle Record from their state's Department of Motor Vehicles at the sole cost of the employee. Performance Requirements Knowledge of: * Safe equipment operating practices/procedures. * Department of Transportation work zone safety measures for traffic control. * Confined space equipment set-up and trenching and shoring safety equipment. Ability to: * Operate larger CDL equipment such as dump trucks, jet rodder combination truck, and asphalt repair trucks. * Operate heavy equipment such as skid steer, trackhoe, backhoe, excavator, and wheel loader. * Work cooperatively with others in order to achieve results. * Lead others in the performance of shared responsibilities. * Read and understand maps in multiple formats, as well as orient locations. * Read equipment operating manuals, Safety Data Sheet (SDS), policies, and other reference materials. * Make mathematical calculations and draw logical conclusions; work with fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurements. * Write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or series of numbers, names, and addresses. * Operate snow and ice equipment during inclement weather. * Work in inclement weather conditions including cold rain, wind, heat, snow, sleet, etc. * Operate tamps, saws, mixers, shovels, fork lift, rollers, pipe laser, level, grade rod, tape measure, various hand and power tools, and jack hammers. * Use a portable radio, phone, or other communication devices. * Use a smart tablet and work management system. * Operate general office equipment to include scanner, printer, copier, telephone, and computer with Microsoft Office Suite. Working Conditions Primary Work Location: Outdoors (maintaining storm system). Protective Equipment Required: Hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, steel toe shoes, and dust masks. Environmental/Health and Safety Factors: Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. Daily exposure to extreme temperature, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, physical hazards, communicable diseases, as well as, mechanical, chemical, electrical, and fire hazards. Seasonal exposure to wetness and/or humidity. Physical Demands: Continuously requires hearing, vision, carrying, handling/grasping, lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, twisting, bending, crouching, standing, and walking. Frequently requires talking, crawling, kneeling, and foot controls. Occasionally requires fine dexterity, climbing, balancing, and sitting. Heavy strength demands include exerting up to 20 pounds constantly, 20-50 pounds frequently, and 50-100 pounds occasionally. Mental Demands: Frequently requires frequent change of tasks, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, tedious or exacting work, noisy/distracting environment, emergency situations, and working closely with others as part of a team.
