1890

Incorporation of No Man's Land in Oklahoma Territory in 1890 finally opened the area to legal settlement at Beaver County and brought a gradual increase in settlers.

1901

Originally called Sanford, it was founded by E.T. Guymon, a grocer and land speculator, in 1901 on the arrival of the Rock Island Railroad.

In 1901 the United States Post Office Department designated a Sanford post office, which was renamed Guymon less than a month later.

In 1901, Old Hardesty was finally abandoned.

1904

In 1904 the plat was filed in Beaver County, Oklahoma Territory.

1907

Guymon, city, seat (1907) of Texas county, northwestern Oklahoma, United States It lies on the high plains of the Panhandle, near the North Canadian River.

Since its admission in 1907 as the 46th state of the union, however, Oklahoma has achieved an integration of its Native American citizens into modern economic and social life that probably is unmatched by any other state.

1909

Oklahoma Panhandle State University (1909) is at Goodwell, 10 miles (16 km) southwest.

1926

In 1926 construction began on the Texas County Courthouse.

1933

In 1933 the city hosted the first Pioneer Days Celebration, featuring a parade, rodeo, and carnival.

1936

Optima Lake was authorized by the Flood Control Act of 1936.

1940

Although the Guymon community was battered by the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, the 1940 United States Census showed that the population had increased to 2,290.

1944

The largest body of water in the state in terms of volume is Lake Texoma, on the Texas-Oklahoma border. It is impounded by a dam (completed 1944) on the Red River near Denison, Texas.

1949

In 1949 Guymon Municipal Hospital (later Memorial Hospital of Texas County) opened.

1979

1984

In 1984 the Texas County Courthouse (NR 84003439) was listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
