A Research Associate II position is available in the Dhawan Lab at the Arthur Riggs Diabetes and Metabolism Research Institute. You will perform standard laboratory molecular, cell biology, and bioinformatics techniques, towards understanding mechanisms that regulate pancreatic beta-cell development, function, and regeneration, as well as diabetes pathogenesis. You should have good organizational skills, experience in performing routine laboratory methods, and a mindset to learn new scientific skills.
As a successful candidate, you will:
* Perform a variety of routine and non-routine experiments utilizing a broad spectrum of molecular and cellular biology techniques to include but not limited to: mammalian cell culture including primary cultures and stable cell lines, iPSCs, DNA and RNA isolation, RNA and spatial sample preparation, sequencing library preparation, RT-PCRs, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, tissue collection and processing, islet physiology in vivo and in vitro, mouse genetics, confocal imaging and image analysis.
* Develop and optimize new laboratory methods and help refine existing methods, troubleshoot experimental procedures if experiment outcomes are unexpected or unsatisfactory.
* Accurately record experimental plans and work performed including results and methodology as well as analyze and compile data obtained.
* Lead the management of laboratory inventories, prepare stock solutions, handle and dispose biohazardous and non-biohazardous materials according to safety protocols when necessary.
* Train lab staff in specialized procedures, equipment and theoretical concepts behind unique tests.
* Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and presentations.
Your qualifications should include:
* Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field, with 2 years of post-degree research experience, or 1 year with a Master's degree
* Experience in an academic or industrial laboratory setting is preferred.
* Familiarity with routine molecular and cellular biological techniques, such as DNA and RNA isolation, qRT-PCR, Western blot, cell culture, and other related techniques.
* Experience in tissue isolation, operation of a microtome and cryostat and histological analysis, is preferred.
* Proficiency in MS Office applications, R Package or Python.
* Flexible and available to work on weekends when required to meet project deadlines or team needs.

A Research Associate II position is available in the laboratory of Leo D. Wang, MD, PhD, at City of Hope, Duarte, CA.
The lab's research in the Department of Immuno-Oncology focuses on how blood and immune cells develop, function, and interact with other cells, with a second focus on how blood stem cells become malignant. We use mass spectrometry to identify activated protein circuits in rare blood stem and progenitor cell populations, including therapeutic chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells, and use that knowledge to improve and devise new therapies for pediatric cancers and blood disorders.
As a successful candidate, you will:
* Coordinate lab tasks and operations, including ordering, inventory, and other essential functions.
* Prepare laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments, and maintain equipment.
* Perform a variety of routine and non-routine laboratory research experiments. Record and validate results and methodology for accuracy and completeness.
* Perform preclinical rodent work (mouse handling, screening, injections, and analysis). Troubleshoot procedures if experiment results are unexpected or unsatisfactory. Recommend alternative procedures.
* Calculate, compile and analyze data obtained from work performed.

Our laboratory is part of the Judy & Bernard Briskin Center for Multiple Myeloma Research. We collaborate closely with clinicians who treat patients and run clinical trials at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, as well as other City of Hope centers in Orange County, Chicago, Phoenix, and Atlanta, reinforcing our translational focus and ensuring access to primary samples from a diverse, nation-wide pool of patients. The laboratory of Dr. Kelly Mahuron is in search of a talented Research Associate II (RA II).
We are a basic and translational immunology laboratory that studies how the immune system can be harnessed to fight cancer. Specifically, our research focuses on tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), an immune cell critical for eliciting an anti-tumor response. We seek to understand which immune cell populations are required for a robust response to immunotherapy, and to develop novel immuno-oncology therapies such as adoptive cell therapy and oncolytic viruses.

* Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) Library Preparation (Main Focus): You will independently perform the end-to-end preparation of complex NGS libraries from diverse sample types (e.g., cells, tissues). The RSP Lab (******************* leverages advanced multi-omic technologies, coupled with experimental perturbations and computational approaches, to decode tumor and immune biology and usher in a new era of biologically informed clinical care for patients with blood cancer, such as Multiple Myeloma.
Our laboratory is part of the Judy & Bernard Briskin Center for Multiple Myeloma Research. We collaborate closely with clinicians who treat patients and run clinical trials at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, as well as other City of Hope centers in Orange County, Chicago, Phoenix, and Atlanta, reinforcing our translational focus and ensuring access to primary samples from a diverse, nation-wide pool of patients. Our high-throughput science is enabled by state-of-the-art facilities for next-generation sequencing and high-performance computing through the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) at City of Hope. The Staff Scientist series is designed for career research professionals whose primary function is to support the research infrastructure and activities of the institution. Individuals appointed as staff scientists will receive a one-year fixed-term contract.
The Staff Scientist in the Center for Precision Medicine will focus on genomic and molecular epidemiology analyses of large datasets to harness genomic-driven insights, clinical expertise, and advanced analytics. The goal is to pioneer personalized prevention and treatment plans that transform outcomes and improve the quality of life for our patients and their families. This position requires extensive experience in clinical and genomic data analysis techniques, as well as electronic medical record data abstraction.
