The Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope is looking for a talented Staff Scientist to perform several functions as a member of the Analytical Pharmacology Core Facility. Your primary role will include operation of the liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) instrumentation available in the core. These efforts will include not only operating the instrument but also assay development, sample preparation, calibration, data analysis, data management/backup and routine maintenance/trouble shooting. In addition, you will assist the director with the development and validation of new analytical methods for the quantitative analysis of large and small molecules in support of pharmacokinetic and biomarker investigations. As a successful candidate, you will: * Develop and apply new and established LC-MS/MS and ICP-MS analytical methods. * Perform data analysis, maintain records, report analytical results, prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for sample preparation and analysis, and assist in manuscript preparation for publications. * Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of problems with laboratory equipment. * Consult with core users regarding appropriateness of analytical methods and experimental design * Coordinate sample collection and batch preparation together with other lab staff. * Participate in and present findings at weekly lab meetings and provide cross-training to other lab members. Your qualifications should include: * Ph.D., Pharm.D. or M.D/Ph.D. degree in Pharmacology, Analytical Chemistry, Life Sciences or related discipline with a background within preclinical and clinical pharmacokinetic studies. A Master's degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in an analytical laboratory will also be considered. * Previous experience using LC-MS/MS instrumentation for quantitative analysis of large and small molecules required. * Experience with Waters and/or AB Sciex instruments is particularly desirable. * Experience with ICP-MS analyses using an Agilent system is also desirable. * Other important skills include knowledge of analytical chemistry and experience with instrument controller software programs, like MassLynx and Analyst. * Knowledge of the principles of quantitative analysis and familiarity with the FDA's Biomedical Method Validation Guidance for Industry are also preferred. * Strong interpersonal, documentation, and organizational skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality analytical chemistry services for users of the core facility are essential. We use this information to design solid-tumor targeted CAR effector cells with improved persistence and potency, as well as the ability to amplify the antitumor immune response. A Research Associate I position is available in the RSP Lab led by Dr. Sklavenitis Pistofidis. The RSP Lab (******************* leverages advanced multi-omic technologies, coupled with experimental perturbations and computational approaches, to decode tumor and immune biology and usher in a new era of biologically informed clinical care for patients with blood cancer, such as Multiple Myeloma. Our laboratory is part of the Judy & Bernard Briskin Center for Multiple Myeloma Research. We collaborate closely with clinicians who treat patients and run clinical trials at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, as well as other City of Hope centers in Orange County, Chicago, Phoenix, and Atlanta, reinforcing our translational focus and ensuring access to primary samples from a diverse, nation-wide pool of patients. Our high-throughput science is enabled by state-of-the-art facilities for next-generation sequencing and high-performance computing through the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) at City of Hope. A Research Associate II position is available in the Dhawan Lab at the Arthur Riggs Diabetes and Metabolism Research Institute. You will perform standard laboratory molecular, cell biology, and bioinformatics techniques, towards understanding mechanisms that regulate pancreatic beta-cell development, function, and regeneration, as well as diabetes pathogenesis. You should have good organizational skills, experience in performing routine laboratory methods, and a mindset to learn new scientific skills. As a successful candidate, you will: * Perform a variety of routine and non-routine experiments utilizing a broad spectrum of molecular and cellular biology techniques to include but not limited to: mammalian cell culture including primary cultures and stable cell lines, iPSCs, DNA and RNA isolation, RNA and spatial sample preparation, sequencing library preparation, RT-PCRs, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, tissue collection and processing, islet physiology in vivo and in vitro, mouse genetics, confocal imaging and image analysis. * Develop and optimize new laboratory methods and help refine existing methods, troubleshoot experimental procedures if experiment outcomes are unexpected or unsatisfactory. * Accurately record experimental plans and work performed including results and methodology as well as analyze and compile data obtained. * Lead the management of laboratory inventories, prepare stock solutions, handle and dispose biohazardous and non-biohazardous materials according to safety protocols when necessary. * Train lab staff in specialized procedures, equipment and theoretical concepts behind unique tests. * Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and presentations. We use mass spectrometry to identify activated protein circuits in rare blood stem and progenitor cell populations, including therapeutic chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells, and use that knowledge to improve and devise new therapies for pediatric cancers and blood disorders.
