This position will also be responsible for the following: * Provides preventive maintenance ensuring safe and clean operating conditions. * Will troubleshoot, maintain, manage, and upgrade existing electrical, electrochemical, and electronic installations and systems. * Responds to emergency calls on various types of electrical failures and shutdowns. * Research technical product specifications. * Inspect field locations to determine appropriate types and placement of electrical components for installation. * Assists in inventory control management of electrical parts and components to provide supply levels. * Will troubleshoot, maintain, manage, and upgrade existing instrumentation and/or instrumentation sub systems. * Must be willing to work "on call" nights and weekends. * May be required to drive a city vehicle and maintain vehicle maintenance and mileage records. * Will perform other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 60 pounds) on a frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier 1 Level. MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a high school degree or a GED certificate. Requires successful completion of an apprentice electrician program approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training or the equivalent as recognized by the Electrical Safety and Licensing Advisory Board. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS No journey level experience is required. MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS A valid Texas Journeyman Electrical License. A valid Driver License is required and Compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2). Preference will be given to the candidate with four (4) years of verifiable electrical apprentice program, PLC experience and a State of Texas Journeymen License. Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
