Accepted candidates will receive 26 weeks of intense classroom instruction and testing acquiring a working knowledge of the Texas Penal Code, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, Texas Transportation Code, Texas Family Code, rules and regulations of the police department and municipal ordinances of the City of Houston. Candidates will receive training in various law enforcement activities such as self-defense, crime scenes, weapon use, and pursuit driving. Successful graduates will be temporarily assigned to a patrol station for further training and evaluation. Candidates who pass all phases of the evaluation process will be expected to enforce federal, state, and local laws. Some of the essential patrol functions are answering citizen's calls, settling disputes, report writing, accident investigations, handling public disorder complaints, responding to alarms, making arrests, searching for suspects, gathering evidence, taking statements, securing property, and providing testimony in court.
WORKING CONDITIONS
During the academy, candidates will spend a majority of their time in a classroom setting. Physical exercising and testing will occur outside and inside of the academy building during hot and cold days. Candidates will be subject to stressful situations during various learning and training exercises.
As patrol officers, the majority of the day will most likely be spent sitting in a patrol car for long hours at a time. Officers may be required to work shift-work (evening and night shift) and conduct patrol duties by foot or bicycle. Officers will be subject to the conditions of the weather (hot, cold, raining, etc.) Officers may be subject to dangerous and stressful situations on a daily basis.Must have one of the following four qualifications:
1. At least 48 semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university with at minimum of a 2.0 grade point average;
OR
2. A minimum of 18 months active duty in the United States armed forces and received an honorable discharge;
OR
3. At least three years of full-time employment as a peace officer licensed by TCOLE or an equivalent licensing entity in another state.
OR
4. At least three years of full-time employment in the last four years in ANY field.
Additional requirements include:
* Must be at least 20 ½ years of age (Applicants must be 21 prior to graduation from the academy).

The Sr. Contract Administrator is a mid-level position that will work under the direction of a Division Manager and will be involved with activities required developing and maintaining contracts for various construction and professional engineering services contracts from proposal development through product/service delivery and then final closeout of the contract. This person will have the skills to conduct proposal preparation, assist in contract administration, and contract risk analysis. This person will review contract terms and estimates and determine whether they are reasonable, accurate, meet operational needs, and in accordance with departmental policies and legal requirements. The Sr. Contract Administrator must have the ability to interpret terms and conditions of a contract as well as monitoring performance against contract requirements and obligations. Responsibilities, include:
* Maintains, updates and communicates bid and proposal information.
* Provides advice and interpretation of contract requirements.
* Develop working relationships with vendor contacts of assigned contracts.
* Closeout contracts at end of award period and archive relevant documents for audit purposes.
* Participate in development and coordination of long-range plans and funding strategies for operations.
* Monitor contractor performance, evaluating and resolving post-award performance and invoice issues.
* Reviews RFPs; processes specifications, progress, and other reports; advises management of risk and contractual rights and obligations; compiles and analyzes data; and maintains historical information.
* Essential functions include, but not limited to producing contractual correspondence, narratives for contract changes, conducting contract negotiations, contractual interpretation of order requirements and agreements, billing support, upkeep of assigned contract files and track all internal/external contractual obligations.

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking Head Lifeguards (Seasonal) to join its Recreation and Wellness team.
The potential candidate(s) will play a key role in the following duties:
* Observe and monitor the swimming activities and deck safety of the public to ensure adherence to safety precautions.
* Enforce the pool facility rules.
* Maintain and operate basic pool maintenance and water safety equipment such as vacuuming, brushing pool walls, cleaning filters and setting up equipment (seats, ropes, umbrellas, rescue tubes, backboards, etc.).
* Some equipment may weigh up to 80 pounds.
* Check pool chemical readings on the PH balance and chlorine levels.
* Perform basic housekeeping activities such as checking restrooms, offices, porches and swimming areas.
* Complete a variety of forms, logs and timesheets.
* Inspect the facility for hazardous conditions that may have occurred overnight.
* Participate in special classes required for lifeguard training.
* Must always be courteous and cooperative with the public at all times.
* Must possess excellent swimming skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Moderate to heavy lifting, up to 80 pounds or an equivalent weight may be required. This position may involve routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light to hazardous chemical substances and cleaning solutions.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and basic written instructions. Must have a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. May require a basic knowledge of a particular subject area.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Requires three (3) months of experience as a lifeguard or water safety instructor.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must be certified in Lifeguard Training or Water Safety Instruction and First Aid/CPR.
Selected applicants who already possess the required certification must be certified by a city-approved agency. Applicants who are not certified may receive certification through the Parks and Recreation Department at a low cost to the individual.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
