1952

Hurst incorporated as a general law city on September 25, 1952 with a total population of 2,700.

1968

Tarrant County Junior College opened in 1968

1974

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport opened in 1974

1977

Arwine cemetery, with nearly 300 identifiable graves, was deemed an historic site in 1977, and is preserved as such today near the Bellaire Shopping Center.

1980

When the 1980 Census was taken, the number of residents with addresses in Hurst had climbed to more than 30,000.

1986

David Palla, Fire Chief, began his career with the Hurst Fire Department in 1986 as a firefighter.

1990

Chief Niekamp received his Associate in Applied Science degree from Tarrant County College in Criminal Justice, then joined the Hurst Police Department in 1990.

1995

She received her Texas Registered Municipal Clerk’s Certification in 1995 and obtained her Certified Municipal Clerk designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks shortly thereafter.

2000

Kyle has worked for the City of Hurst since 2000, serving in several progressive positions within the Community Services Department before becoming the Executive Director of Community Services.

2003

Malaika has worked for the City of Hurst since 2003 serving in several progressive positions within the Community Services Department before becoming the Executive Director of Administration and Customer Service.

2006

Rita Frick has been City Secretary in the City of Hurst since 2006, and has over 32 years experience in municipal government, the last 17 years as a Municipal Clerk.

2009

Steve has been the Executive Director of Economic Development since 2009.

2010

Growth in the area has since slowed, such that Hurst’s population in the 2010 Census - 30 years later - was 37,337.

2012

Clay eventually became a department director and was again promoted to Assistant City Manager in July of 2013.

2014

Greg Dickens is the Executive Director of Public Works and has worked for the City since January of 2014.

2016

Clay began serving as City Manager for the City of Hurst in July of 2016.
