SALARY RANGE $37.56 - $52.15 WORK ASSIGNMENT DETAILS Waukesha County's Engineering Team is seeking a talented Civil Engineer to contribute to the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of transportation highway and bridge infrastructure. This role involves engineering problem solving, technical engineering application, teamwork, creativity, learning, communication, customer service and a fearless pursuit of excellence and public service. Key Responsibilities: Transportation project development, design and construction. Project management and consultant oversight. Develop and conduct environmental assessments for transportation projects. Conduct cost estimates, traffic, and drainage studies for highway projects. Assist in preparing the five-year highway capital plan. Utilize CADD, Civil3D and GIS for complex engineering computations and designs. Prepare detailed reports, roadway plans, right-of-way plats, and technical specifications. Transportation project utility coordination. Utilize traffic data, processes and tools for highway safety, operations and design decision-making. Prepare and administer highway and bridge construction contracts. Manage elements of the department's computerized highway asset management system. Essential Skills and Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental engineering, or a related field; (December 2025 graduates eligible to apply.) Proficient in CADD, GIS, and Civil3D. Strong understanding of Wisconsin DOT, AASHTO standards, and pertinent regulations. Essential Duties Project Design & Management * Manage, administer, and serve as project engineer for design, construction, and maintenance projects. * Prepare and review highway design plans, cost estimates, specifications, and contractor documentation. * Utilize AutoCAD and Civil 3D for development of roadways, intersections, bridges, trails, and parking lot improvement plans. * Oversee field construction grade staking, layout, and design. Field Engineering & Inspection * Conduct site inspections to direct and assist highway crews, contractors, and utilities. * Verify material quantities and evaluate contractor invoices and change orders. * Resolve field issues such as utility conflicts and implement appropriate traffic control plans.
