Later, in 1874, James Comeford paid US$450 for a land claim of 1,280 acres (5.2 km2) that would become Downtown Marysville.

After a controversy over hydraulic mining, dikes were built (after 1875) to protect the city from flooding.

By 1879 education became a need of the small but growing community, and Mrs.

Marysville remained a one-man (Comeford) town until 1883, when a few settlers began to trickle in.

Marysville was platted on February 25, 1885, with the plat filed by J. D. Morris and dedicated by J. P. and Maria Comeford.

A year later, Marysville opened a Post Office and the first saw mill opened in 1887.

In 1888, in response to the settlers, the Comefords opened a store, with living quarters (hotel), and a plank road that connected to the dock.

There are no official census figures for Marysville in 1890, but most estimates give it a population of about 200.

In 1891, James Comeford incorporated the town, with logging as its primary industry.

In 1901, the first Marysville City Hall opened in the present-day Baxter Senior Center.

In 1902, the city established its own Crystal Lodge, known as No.

By 1906 Marysville was established as a significant lumber and shingle manufacturing center, with at least 10 mills cranking out more than a million board feet of lumber a day and shipping it from docks strategically located on Ebey Slough.

In 1907, the public library was established, while the first high school class graduated.

In 1908, the Afton Chapter of Eastern Star and the Alumni Association of the High School were formed.

In particular, by 1910 farmers were beginning to discover that the fertile land was especially conducive for growing strawberries.

In 1919, C. Harold Wills, a millionaire motor car engineer from Detroit, changed the face of the village.

A number of other local clubs also provided social opportunities in the community, and a bandstand opened in City Park in 1920 provided a spot for numerous concerts during the decade.

In 1922 entertainment options increased when both the radio and motion picture arrived in Marysville.

Later, in 1926, the United States Department of Transportation approved United States Route 99 (US 99), which would use State Avenue through Marysville.

A community college was founded in Marysville in 1927.

The Marysville Strawberry Festival was inaugurated in 1932 to promote both Marysville and its seemingly endless fields of strawberries.

Then, in 1955, a tremendous freeze wiped out many of the berry farmers, and the strawberry industry in Marysville never fully recovered.

In 1964, the Washington State Highway Department was renamed the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and the highway system was replaced.

The society has saved the water tower from demolition, found historic artifacts related to Marysville's historic times, and more. It was created in 1974.

Marysville Today The 1980 United States Census put Marysville’s population at 5,544.

In 1989, Washington celebrated its state centennial.

Centennial (1991) Marysville celebrated its centennial on March 20, 1991.

Marysville started to annex surrounding areas in 1992, when Marysville bought some unincorporated land that is now known as North Marysville.

The city has grown, partly by annexing nearby communities, to a total of 25,315 people in 2000.
