* Screens and answers all incoming calls to gather information from non-emergency and emergency calls for service. Assists callers with non-emergent issues (3-1-1) by providing them with City resources and information that address their concerns or questions. Assists callers with potential life-threatening and emergency issues (9-1-1) requiring Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical (EMS) response by providing immediate life-saving instructions prior to first responder arrival. Operates multiple administrative telephone lines, utilizes language service providers, and Telecommunication Device for the Deaf (TDD) when necessary. Uses various geographical maps to pinpoint callers' location. Uses call data to prioritize and determine if an emergency or non-emergency response is needed. Utilizes defined dispatch protocols to input incident data into Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system under strict time constraints for emergency response. A Cemetery Worker performs unskilled, semiskilled, and skilled tasks related to interment and marker installation work at the City's cemetery. Duties range from skilled operation of a backhoe for precision digging of grave sites, including: grave layout and burial site preparation (example: hauling and placing lowering devices), setting markers, pouring concrete borders and pads, and constructing in-ground urn units; covering graves with boards for safety purposes; to semiskilled activities such as: irrigation repair work, maintaining berms to ensure proper water control, maintaining straps and tires on lowering devices, and using a motorized cart to transport lowering devices and canopies to and from grave sites; adjusting and aligning lowering devices over graves and installing side curtains; and tree care, maintenance, and planting of donated trees. Other cemetery duties include: mowing; trimming; flower removal; cleaning around grave site locations; assisting with special event set ups; and special projects such as exploratory digging in the cemetery expansion area to remove unwanted materials and excavating and back filling for an archeological dig in the expansion area. This class performs related duties as required.
Work is often done independently under the general supervision of the Cemetery Crew Leader, who reviews work through conferences, spot checking, and results achieved. Some work requires prolonged heavy physical exertion under adverse weather conditions. Work may require weekend work to accommodate burial schedules. This class is FLSA nonexempt.

About the Position:
A Pro Tem Judge presides over misdemeanor and civil traffic cases filed with the Mesa Municipal Court. The incumbent is responsible for applying relevant Supreme Court Rules, state statutes, City ordinances, and case law when presiding over trials to the court, trials to a jury, pre-trial conferences, arraignments, motions, and other hearings. A Pro Tem Judge is also responsible for imposing sentences commensurate to the offense and within the parameters allowed by law. Duties include determining the conditions, which if met, will allow the defendant's release from police custody. The incumbent is expected to preside over cases in any division of the Mesa Municipal Court in any type of court hearing. A Pro Tem Judge may not represent clients on cases pending in the Mesa Municipal Court. Pro Tem Judges are appointed by the Presiding City Magistrate to a specified term.
Minimum Qualifications Required. Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to extensive (5+ years) experience as a lawyer, judge, or hearing officer in criminal or traffic cases, and graduation from an accredited school of law.

The City of Mesa is currently recruiting Lifeguards for the Summer Season as well as year-round opportunities. The Summer Season runs from April 2026 through August 2026. Lifeguards will work up to 40 hours per week, depending on business needs.
As a lifeguard, you will be monitoring activities at a City-operated swimming pool to prevent accidents and to rescue swimmers in danger of drowning. A Lifeguard cautions swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards, maintains order in the pool and adjoining areas, and administers first aid. Other duties include: completing reports associated with accidents and incidents, conducting water chemical/clarity checks, facility cleaning duties, removing debris from the pool and adjoining areas, and providing general pool information to patrons. A Lifeguard performs related duties as assigned.
Qualified applicants must successfully complete one skills testing. The first Skills Test will be offered on Saturday, March 21, 2026, and remaining staffing needs will be filled at a second Skills Test Saturday, April 4, 2026. Skills testing will include an assessment of various lifeguard skills, fitness level, as well as a verbal interview. In order to attend either skills test, applications must be received online by 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2026, and you must receive an email invitation with details of the skills testing event.
