City of Minot company history timeline

1886

Its spectacular growth in the early 20th century earned it the nickname “the Magic City.” It was settled in 1886 as a tent town for construction of the Great Northern Railway and was named to honour Henry Davis Minot, an Eastern railroad investor.

1888

Minot, city, seat (1888) of Ward county, north-central North Dakota, United States It lies on the Souris River (also called the Mouse River), about 50 miles (80 km) south of the Canadian border and about 100 miles (160 km) northwest of Bismarck.

1905

In 1905, City Hall was built in the 100 block of First Avenue Southwest.

1908

The first records start to show up in 1908.

1913

The year 1913 was an important one to the Minot Fire Department.

Minot’s international airport houses a museum displaying military and civilian aircraft. It is the seat of Minot State University (established 1913) and the site of the annual North Dakota State Fair.

1927

In 1927, the number of paid personnel went from 4 to 5 with the addition of another firefighter.

1931

In 1931, the Minot Fire Department became a fully paid department.

1942

In 1942, horses were used again for a short while.

1957

28, 1957, the Fire Department moved into new quarters, leaving the First Avenue location that had housed the department for 52 years and moving into the new station on the corner of 6th Street and 2nd Avenue.

Minot Air Force Base (opened 1957), about 15 miles (25 km) north of the city, is a primary economic factor; business and financial services, telemarketing, and agricultural processing are also important.

1958

In 1958, the firefighter’s hours were cut from 72 hours per week to 63 hours per week.

1965

11, 1965, the department opened its first substation, named Station 2.

1980

1, 1980, the department opened its second substation named Station 3, at the Minot International Airport.

2001

In 2001, the headquarters station was moved to 2111 10th Street Southwest to improve response times to rapidly growing south Minot.

11, 2001, the country began preparations to respond to these types of incidents.

2002

In 2002, the department began receiving funding for equipment to do regional response for northwest North Dakota for hazardous materials incidents.

2016

In January 2016, the department hired Kelli Kronschnabel, its first female fire chief.

On March 6, 2016, the department opened its third substation named Station 4 at 1505 55th Street Southeast and added 12 personnel.
