1880

The first school in Ocoee was established in 1880.

1881

William Blakely arrived in Ocoee in 1881.

1886

The Town of Ocoee was the name of a subdivision platted by Doctor H.K. Clarke, Charles J. Chunn and R.B.F. Roper created the Town of Ocoee subdivision in 1886.

1913

In 1913 he bought a home on West Oakland avenue and converted one of the rooms into a library which he allowed the community to use.

1920

The 1920 incident started when a Black man was refused his right to vote. (Willie J. Allen Jr. / Orlando Sentinel)

1921

A 1921 newspaper account said he was found the next day alive, but chained to a light post, painted from the waist up with red and white stripes, his head tied in a sack.

1959

State Road 50 (SR 50) was constructed south of downtown Ocoee in 1959 and provided a direct east-west connection between the City and a growing Orlando.

1964

Completion of the Florida Turnpike through Ocoee (1964)

2002

July Perry’s grave was unmarked until 2002, when city officials, civil leaders, Perry family descendants, and others held a small ceremony to dedicate a gravestone.
