1826

Warneford hospital was built in 1826.

1827

1835

During the 18th century a canal network linking Oxford with various parts of the country was also developed, and in 1835 the Great Western Railway from London to Bristol was begun.

1) To the east, across the Cherwell, the small suburb of St Clement's was established in the early Middle Ages, but it was not taken into the city until 1835.

1836

Miami University is well known for development of the McGuffey Readers by W.H. McGuffey, that began publication in 1836.

1844

A railway from Oxford to London was built in 1844.

1850

After 1850 a middle-class estate was built at Park Town.

1860

In 1860 the Natural History Museum opened.

1892

The first electricity generating station in Oxford was built in 1892.

1910

Oxford gained its first cinema in 1910.

1913

The fate of Oxford was changed in 1913 when a man named Morris began making cars in the city.

1920

Private houses were built around Woodstock Road in the 1920s.

1936

Oxford police station was built in 1936.

1938

Meanwhile, Oxford airport opened in 1938.

1952

Cutteslowe park was laid out in 1952.

1953

St Clare’s College opened in 1953.

1965

The Cowley Shopping Centre was completed in 1965.

1972

The Westgate shopping centre opened in Oxford in 1972.

1979

The colleges and collegial institutions of the University of Oxford include All Souls (1438), Balliol (1263–68), Brasenose (1509), Christ Church (1546), Corpus Christi (1517), Exeter (1314), Green (1979), Harris Manchester (founded 1786; inc.

1984

Clarendon Shopping Centre opened in 1984.

2006

Furthermore in 2006 Oxford Castle opened to the public.
