City Of Pflugerville, Texas company history timeline

1825

Pflugerville is on Farm Road 1825 fifteen miles north of Austin in northeastern Travis County.

1844

Dietrich Bohls (originally Bohlsen) and family immigrated to Texas from Germany in 1844, arriving at Indianola on the Texas coast.

1853

Henry Pfluger later exchanged the land in 1853 for a larger farm about 5 miles east of where Pflugerville is currently situated.

1860

PFLUGERVILLE, TEXAS Located about fifteen miles north of the Colorado River on the eastern edge of the blackland prairies, Pflugerville was founded in 1860 when William Bohls established a general store and post office in his residence, and named the town in honor of Henry Pfluger.

1867

11/08/1867 was the ninth child of Johannes Pfluger and Elizabeth Wachenfeld.

1890

By the mid-1890's, Pflugerville had a population of 250, and within ten years of the arrival of the railroad, the population had doubled to 500 residents.

1904

The Missouri-Kansas-Texas line provided the city with a great boom in population, and Otto Pfluger, one of Henry Pfluger’s sons, built the city’s first gin in 1904.

Two additional buildings and a blacksmith shop were added later, but it was not until the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad arrived in 1904 that the town experienced a period of rapid growth.

1909

In 1909 a second gin was built.

1913

The Heritage House Museum in Pflugerville, also known as the Bohls House, was built by G.W. Bohls (great-grandson of Dietrich) in 1913.

1920

St Mary's cemetery was started in the 1920’s for the burial of African and Mexican Americans.

1949

The population continued to decline after World War II, and by 1949, the number of residents in Pflugerville had fallen to 380.

1957

In late 1957, a town meeting was held to see about the possibility to incorporate the city of Pflugerville.

1965

With 60 votes to incorporate and 40 votes against; on a Saturday, of July 24, 1965 - Pflugerville was incorporated as a city.

1976

Pflugerville's most popular pfestival began in 1976 and is held the third weekend in May every year! Items in this collection were provided courtesy of the Heritage House Museum and the City of Pflugerville.

1978

In 1978, Travis County Commissioners, disturbed that the community's official name continued to reflect its origin under legal segregation, attempted to rename the Addition to Western Addition.

2010

Over the past 19 years, Pflugerville’s population has experienced a growth rate of 192 percent, with the population growing to 48,356 according to the 2010 census and it currently stands at 64,431 according to the most recent population estimates.

2013

In 2013, Pflugerville was ranked one of the Best Places to Live by Money Magazine.

2015
