Empties trash and stocks supplies, etc. * Operation of cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor machines, buffers and carpet extractors. * Removes litter and debris from facility walkways and grounds. * Supervision and securing of facility. * Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of work; drives City vehicles to work sites, transports materials and assists other staff as required. * Provides customer service. * Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with contractors, public and City staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. The duty station in Las Vegas provides easy access to the monument, which preserves thousands of acres of undeveloped land containing one of the most significant Pleistocene fossil assemblages in the Southwest. Members serving here will experience a site where mammoths, ancient camels, bison, and other Ice Age species once roamed, all while working just minutes from the amenities of a major city. Although the monument is still in its early development stages and lacks facilities such as restrooms, water, and visitor centers, its wide-open scenery, solitude, and remarkable paleontological resources offer a rare opportunity to work in a developing national park unit. Its proximity to Las Vegas allows for reliable cell coverage, easy commuting, and access to housing, groceries, and recreation, making it an appealing and convenient host location with truly one-of-a-kind natural resources. Position Overview: The goal of this position will be to inventory and geospatially map all of the Monument's assets and collect data for the Facilities Management Software System (FMSS) in order to maintain these resources. The FMSS serves as a tracking tool that provides accountability for the Asset Management Program (AMP). The intern will assist with critical maintenance needs that support and strengthen coordination with gateway communities, enhance the public's experience, but also preserve the Monument's resources and assets. Among the notable historic resources preserved at this urban Monument is the Tule Springs Archeological Site, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups. The individual will accomplish field work at Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument located on the northern part of the Las Vegas valley and office is located 45 miles south in Boulder City. Schedule: Typical schedule outside of the summer months are Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm PST. During the summer months, 1 May-30 September, field work hours change to 6:00am-2:30pm PST to account for the summer heat.     Click to view job description PARKS MAINTENANCE HELPER II - Parks & Recreation Under immediate supervision, perform manual labor tasks safely in all sections of the Parks Department. Perform other related work as required. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Work with other employees in performing manual labor various tasks required of the Park Department in a safe and acceptable manner. Lift and/or carry up to 80 pounds of soil amendments for flower bed preparation. Climb a 12-foot ladder while pruning or painting. Operate various push type or hand held power tools, including but not limited to lawnmowers, edgers, linetrimmers, rotary tillers, jackhammers, and chainsaws. Work outside in extreme weather conditions (very hot or cold), with some exposure to hazardous chemicals or fumes (using appropriate safety apparel and practices). Work in tight or enclosed areas such as trenches, using proper safety precautions. Work bent over or on knees for extended periods of time. Walk through brush or entangled areas along creeks and other areas. Works safely in close proximity to high speed vehicle traffic, such as on medians. Operate equipment such as tractors (60 h.p.) with various attachments (e.g. augers and tillers), tree spade, chippers, stump grinders, and welders. Operate large trucks (14 yard dump), other vehicles, equipment, and tools. Operate and maintain paint spraying equipment when required. Write daily work reports; follow written and oral directions in performing park maintenance tasks. Communicate courteously and effectively with other employees, officials, and the public. Act as back-up person to Park Specialist positions. Act as crew leader when assigned. Provide support for special events. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES: Completion of 11th grade required; High School diploma or GED preferred. A Texas Drivers License Class C is required. A Texas Commercial Drivers License Class A or B will also be accepted. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SPILLS: Must have knowledge to work safely with all types of equipment used in maintenance work.
