The City of Roanoke is seeking an experienced, self-motivated Maintenance Technician III to join the Fleet Division of General Services on the day shift. This position performs skilled mechanical work on specialized construction and automotive equipment. Responsibilities include diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, and servicing a wide range of medium and heavy automotive equipment, as well as specialized units such as diesel and gasoline engines, air compressors, pump apparatus, and aerial truck hydraulic systems.
The role also involves overhauling, fabricating, and servicing assemblies and components including single and two-speed rear axles, multi-speed transmissions, and hydraulic, compressed air, vacuum, and electric control systems.
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with one to three years of related experience or training in repairing automotive and light or heavy power-driven equipment. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. The position requires qualification for State Inspector certification. Two ASE certifications must be obtained within the first year of employment. A State Inspection license and a Class B CDL are preferred.

SUMMARY
Supervises and participates in the work of a crew engaged in a variety of maintenance, construction, and utilities activities. Performs skilled work in the operation or repair of several types of motorized equipment or maintenance of facilities and/or equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following depending on area of assignment. Other duties may be assigned.
Discuss job requirements and receives detailed instructions from supervisor
Inspects work in progress to ensure conformance with instructions
Makes and adjusts work assignments
Requisitions necessary equipment and materials
Maintains accurate log sheets and checklists
Operates tractor trailer, street sweeper, bulldozer, heavy front-end loader, crane and chipper, excavator, large motor grader in leveling ground surfaces, street and construction repair
Operates heavy and light equipment in snow removal
Inspect new and existing stormwater infrastructure using an onboard computer system to remotely operate a camera and tractor system and overlay information on screen, to be recorded on a laptop for later printing and importing into an asset management database.
Diagnoses, adjusts, repairs and services a wide variety of medium and heavy automotive and specialized equipment including diesel or gasoline engine equipment, air compressors, pump apparatus and aerial truck hydraulic systems
Makes repairs and renovations to fields and grounds including mowing, mulching, aeration, grading, seeding, and sodding
Requisitions parts and materials used in the repair of motor equipment
Inspects equipment for proper safety and ensures that truck is equipped with all necessary equipment for the day's assignment (i.e. water cooler, fist aid kit, safety flares, etc)
Performs journey-level trades work in one of the following areas: carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and/or welding
Performs carpentry work, building cabinets, benches, barricades, and other items
Trains and instructs subordinates
Assists with special events, snow removal and other emergency tasks, including some nights and weekends, as needed
Knowledge of pertinent rules and regulations, guidelines, safety orders, departmental operating procedures and safety regulations sufficient to insure that work is performed in compliance with applicable law.
Enforces sound safety and housekeeping practices.
Follows safety rules/procedures; avoid known hazards in the work environment.
Reviews safety procedures before beginning each job with known hazards.

Responsibilities
Participate in regular cleaning and repair of drainage facilities, catch basins, gutter pan and sidewalks;

Maintenance Engineer Job Summary:
The Maintenance Engineer performs building operations, customer service, and community enhancement. Were looking for someone who will complete or assist with tasks related to electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, heating, and other trades within a commercial building. Daily duties will include working with the property management team to perform preventive maintenance, respond to service tickets, and provide a safe environment for building tenants and visitors.

PRIMARY BUILDING ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform building and systems inspections, making necessary modifications to building systems
Complete Preventive and Corrective Maintenance requests professionally
Work with vendors to complete contracted work orders to meet expectations
Maintain records, reports, and evaluations, and provide recommendations regarding necessary building maintenance operations
Identify and help to order parts, materials, equipment, and supplies that are needed
Manage Building Management System (BMS) / Energy Management System (EMS) as directed by Lead/Chief Engineer
Maintain a clean engineering shop, mechanical plant, mechanical rooms, and general appearance
Follow all safety rules and regulations
Perform related work as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
1 - 3 years maintaining equipment and systems in commercial buildings
Possess demonstrated mechanical skills and abilities with HVAC equipment
Experience and skills in operating, troubleshooting, maintaining, installing, and repairing equipment
Basic technology skills necessary to manage work order applications on mobile phone and learn to operate Building Automation Systems
High School diploma or equivalent, and must be able to communicate effectively in English
Occasionally work overtime to perform necessary repairs or maintenance that are necessary to complete during off-hours
Must meet the occupation requirements, such as lifting 50 lbs., walking distances, kneeling for 1 hour, and climbing ladders.
Must have reliable transportation
Must be able to pass a drug screening and background check

Manage a swimming pool route that includes the cleaning of swimming pools each week.

The ability to utilize a smart phone for our Pool Brain mobile platform.
The ability to spot equipment repair needs and communicate those needs to the office.
Assist with pool-related projects (e.g. opening/closing; safety cover and vinyl liner installations; deck repairs; caulking; pool painting).
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:Requirements for this position are that you have:(1) a valid driver's license with a clean driving record; and(2) the ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
No other specific experience is required as we will teach you the ASP methods designed to give our customers a great looking pool and to maximize your earning potential; however,
a high school degree and Certified Pool Operator License is preferred.
Compensation:Full-time and part-time positions are available with compensation based on experience. Any candidate who can work independently at any level makes at least $22/hour. Must be able to obtain a valid Class B CDL license within 6 months of employment with air brake and tanker endorsements. Examples of Duties
SUMMARY
Supervises and participates in the work of a crew engaged in highly skilled maintenance, and landscaping activities. Performs work in multiple skilled trades.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESmay include the following depending on area of assignment. Other duties may be assigned.
Assigns and supervises the work of maintenance workers and technicians
Discusses job requirements with and receives detailed instruction from supervisor
Inspects work in progress to assure conformance with instructions
Requisitions necessary equipment and materials
Maintains time and material records and prepares simple reports
Performs or assists in performing more difficult or skilled tasks
May perform inspection of playgrounds and associated equipment
Makes repairs and renovations to fields and grounds including mowing, mulching, aeration, grading, seeding, and sodding
Coordinates with other department operational and technical personnel in the performance of assigned tasks
Operates heavy and light equipment in snow removal
Assists with special events, snow removal and other emergency tasks, including some nights and weekends, as needed
Knowledge of pertinent rules and regulations, guidelines, safety orders, departmental operating procedures and safety regulations sufficient to insure that work is performed in compliance with applicable law.
Follows safety rules/procedures; avoid known hazards in the work environment.
Reviews safety procedures before beginning each job with known hazards.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Depending on area of assignment, may require possession of an appropriate class A, B or C commercial driver's license. May require master-level licensure in an area of skilled trades. May require registered technician license and Certified Fertilizer Applicator certification. May be required to qualify for certification as a State Inspector.

Utility Maintenance Mechanic I

Assists with basic maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair of various mechanical equipment and systems, appliances, and other related Prince William Water structures and systems. Demonstrates a commitment and supports a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
* Assist senior mechanics with gathering and setting up mechanical maintenance materials and with general installation, maintenance, and repair of various equipment and systems (i.e., pumps, piping, chemical feed systems, blowers, generators, etc.).
* Provide preventive maintenance assistance such as visual inspection; packing; adjusting; lubing; checking bolts, alarms, fluids (oil, coolant, fuel, etc.); cleaning/changing filters; disabling chargers; etc.
* Assist with general equipment installation.
* Assess Prince William Water buildings for problems and assist with general maintenance and repairs (such as leaks, broken windows, etc.).
* Identify common faulty mechanical equipment and/or system problems.
* Work closely with other Mechanics on daily work assignments, projects, and tasks.
* Write general notes regarding daily maintenance work using the CMMS system and respond to emails.
* Utilize appropriate safety precautions as required (i.e., safety glasses, ear protection, hard hat, etc.).
* Transfer chemicals as needed.
* Operate a Prince William Water vehicle.
* May be deemed essential at any time.
* Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Essential Competencies:
* Possess basic mechanical maintenance knowledge.
* Ability to learn, retain, and apply basic mechanical maintenance knowledge/procedures and safety requirements/PPE to successfully work on various equipment and systems.
* Ability to read, follow, and comprehend equipment manuals, SOPs, SMPs, MSDS, SDS, and basic mathematical instructions; and to learn and recognize the applications of new materials.
* Ability to follow and accept verbal direction and guidance from senior mechanics and work as a member of a team on daily assignments and projects.
* Possess effective verbal communication and clear, legible, and accurate writing skills.
* Possess knowledge and ability to select and work with general, construction, and metric tools.
* Possess a basic understanding of math to mix and apply liquids to equipment.
* Ability to visually inspect mechanical equipment and assess for basic mechanical problems.
* Possess basic keyboarding skills and be able to comfortably work with technology and computers.
Minimum Education and Work Experience:
* High School diploma or GED.
* Or a combination of education and experience as described above.
Required Licenses/Certifications and Other Special Requirements:
* Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license consistent with Prince William Water policy requirements.
* Valid Forklift Operators Certification upon hire or required to obtain and maintain within 90 days of employment in this position.
* Required to work on-call on a rotating basis.
Operations and Maintenance Only:
* Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement upon hire or required to obtain and maintain within 120 days of employment in this position.
* Must also pass an air brake knowledge test.
* Valid Medical Examiner's Card from passing a Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical upon hire or required to obtain and maintain within 120 days of employment in this position.
