…while most of Texas voted to leave the union in the 1860’s, Williamson County and Round Rock voted strongly in favor of remaining in the union.
…that the infamous killer John Wesley Hardin graduated from the “Round Rock Academy” in 1870.
In 1876, when the International-Great Northern Railroad was built through Williamson County, its tracks were laid a short distance south and east of Round Rock.

With the coming of the railroad in 1876, the Texas Land Company aided in developing a new townsite at the end of the line.
On July 18, 1878, Sam Bass was engaged in a gunfight by A.W. Grimes and a Texas Ranger Division.
In 1879, the Round Rock Searchlight was established.

…in 1912 the first electricity came to Williamson County in Taylor, Texas.
…in 1913, the citizens of Round Rock voted to become an incorporated city.
After it was gutted by fire in 1963, architect Martin S. Kermacy and wife, Evelyn, built a modern interior within the Victorian Italianate walls.
Since 1970, the town has developed in all directions, and so-called Old Town, consisting of a few restored limestone structures, is now surrounded by the rest of the city.
