City of Salisbury, Maryland history

The University of Maryland, Baltimore, was founded in 1807 as the College of Medicine of Maryland, the fifth medical school in the United States.

He was born in Ford near Salisbury in 1865.

At the time of 1911 census he had been promoted to Sergeant and was residing at 18 Belle Vue Road, Salisbury.

The campuses at College Park and Baltimore merged to form the University of Maryland in 1920.

Salisbury University, part of the University of Maryland system, was established in 1925.

SALISBURY — In 1949, the Salisbury Police Department hired one of its first black officers — Rayford Graham, who would go on to serve 26 years in law enforcement.

The Salisbury Township Police Department was created by an ordinance of the Township of Salisbury Board of Commissioners and began operations in 1958.

The University of Maryland System was created in 1988 when a merger formed the current 11-campus system.

Linda Duyer began her research work in Salisbury in 1990 by documenting African American cemeteries and communities in our area.

Renamed the University System of Maryland in 1997, it is an academic and research institute with land-grant and sea-grant status.
