Role description The Apprentice Cement Mason II position is an entry-level training role designed to develop the skills and competencies necessary for progression to a journey-level Cement Mason upon completion of the program. Apprentices will participate in guided hands-on training, structured development programs, and close supervision to ensure comprehensive skill-building. Apprentice Cement Masons support journey-level Cement Masons by performing routine tasks. Important and Essential Duties: As an Apprentice Cement Mason II, your duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: * Participates in a Joint Apprentice Training Committee Apprenticeship School through the recognized employee organization. * Communicates and learns to work with supervisors, journey-level cement masons, and co-workers. Learned to follow orders and directions. * Prepares job sites by setting up safety tripods and scaffolding; may secure confined space job sites. * Performs mixing and applying toppings, colors, grout, epoxy overlays, or waterproofing compounds following job specifications. * Performs framing work, including placing and finishing curbs, sidewalks, gutters, disability access ramps, and various other concrete structures. * Participates in demolition of flat work and concrete structures with the proper use of pneumatic tools, such as chipping guns, jackhammers, concrete saws, and other power equipment. * Pour and finish concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters, streets, disability access ramps, and steps using screeds, trowels and floats. * Identifies and uses various hand and pneumatic tools and power equipment; cleans and otherwise maintains tools and equipment; and performs general maintenance. * Learns to order materials and estimate concrete; assisted in laying out work for new construction or repair by measuring and calculating the correct type, materials and supplies necessary to complete the job. * Loads and unloads materials, supplies, and equipment on and off trucks. * Learning safety procedures and use of safety equipment, preparing job sites, proper concrete and debris disposal, tapering traffic, and pedestrian detouring. * Basic learning of the scope of concrete work performed by the San Francisco Public Works Cement Shop. * Communicate clearly and effectively to ensure you're understood (written and verbal formats). Essential skills and abilities required for the apprenticeship program: * Climb ladders * Crawl on hands and knees as needed to access work areas. * Lift, drag, and/or move with assistance large and/or heavy equipment to truck bed level * Bend knees, waist, and back; stoop, squat, and kneel for extended periods. * Remain in physically uncomfortable positions for prolonged durations. * Lift objects that weigh up to ninety (90) pounds and carry them for distances up to fifty (50) feet. * Basic arithmetic, including measuring, counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, calculating ratios, percentages and dimensions without a calculator.     The Deputy Sheriff Trainee (Adult Detention) will attend the Stanislaus County Adult Detention CORE academy. This individual escorts, receives, registers, controls, supervises and cares for incarcerated persons and may be assigned to either the Sheriff's Detention Center (SDC) East and West Facilities, Minimum Housing Unit or Re-entry and Enhanced Alternatives to Custody Training Center (REACT). Deputies must be mature, emotionally stable and able to work effectively in an environment that is often hostile, unpredictable and occasionally unpleasant. Deputies must have the ability to direct and instruct groups of incarcerated persons; have a tolerant attitude towards those confined; be able to respond to a wide variety of situations and exercise sound judgment. This position is also required to work under a "No Hostage Policy" setting and performs related duties as assigned. Entry into the Deputy Sheriff-Custodial classification offers career opportunities in custodial correction work. Deputy Sheriff Trainee's are classified as extra-help / part-time employees, working 40 hours per week until training is completed. Deputy Sheriff-Custodial personnel are peace officers pursuant to 830.1 (c), whose authority extends to any place in the state only while engaged in the performance of the duties of his or her respective employment and for the purpose of carrying out the primary function of employment relating to his or her custodial assignments, or when performing other law enforcement duties directed by his or her employing agency during a local state of emergency. This classification should not be confused with that of the Deputy Sheriff, whose authority to act as a peace officer has no time restrictions. DUTIES SUMMARY The fundamental reason for the existence of this classification is to receive and transmit information in the Police Communications Center via telephone, radio calls, written and coded information using a computer aided dispatch system (CADS). DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This position is assigned to the Police Communications Center, which is a 24-hour, seven-days-per-week operation, requiring shift coverage. Incumbents must work assigned shift and must be proficient at multi-tasking. There is a high premium placed on the accuracy and speed of information gathering and maturity in decision making of employees.Under immediate supervision, operates a computer aided dispatch system to send police units in response to emergency calls and other public service needs; determines priorities of all calls and prioritizes responses when police units are needed in a number of situations which exceed available units; evaluates situations to determine appropriate units to dispatch based on availability, priority and location of units; dispatches backup units if appraisal of situation suggests the need for such support or is requested by officers; with the aid of detailed maps may direct the police units to locations; obtains required information in discussion with emergency caller; uses Orange County radio system in dispatching units; performs complaint writer function which requires receiving telephone and radio calls and typing information including codes into the CADS to create a call for service; monitors Police Building entrances on audio and visual security systems to prevent unauthorized entrance; transfers emergency information to other agencies based on information extracted from the caller; performs other related duties as assigned. Communication Operators receive and record calls on the Public Safety Computer system, dispatch police units to emergency and public service calls. Project Management The Capital Division delivers renovations and new construction of a variety of neighborhood and citywide recreational facilities.
