The Library Associate IV classification provides a broad range of information services for the Library's patrons, including assisting patrons with locating and using Library resources, performing bibliographic searches and other basic reference work. In addition, the Library Associate IV classification provides readers' advisory services and assists patrons with using Library equipment; Library Associate IV staff members are primarily responsible for service and operation of the information desk and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for patrons. This includes interacting with patrons regarding the Library's Rules of Conduct and using de-escalation skills to support patrons' successful use of the library. The Library Associate IV provides circulation services as well as technical and administrative support. The Library Associate IV must use sound judgment when assessing requests for information and utilize a variety of skills to locate information for patrons. They will also determine when to refer questions to others within the Library who may more effectively respond to a particular request. * Provide basic readers' advisory and reference services in all subjects: Provide readers' advisory and reference services in person, on the phone and online, using a broad range of information resources in print and electronic formats (SPL catalog and website, licensed databases and web resources). Refer complex reference questions to an appropriate reference service provider, when necessary. * Perform basic troubleshooting for patrons who are using library-related technology: Assist patrons with questions related to the Library's public computers, pay for print, and distribute internet guest passes to visitors. Provide instruction and assistance to groups and individuals regarding library-related technology and online resources. * Provide information services related to Library operations, services and policies: Provide information to patrons about operations, services and policies throughout the Library system. * Perform a range of library circulation activities: Assists patrons with circulation-related functions, such as checking in and checking out library materials, paying fees, placing holds, updating borrower records, and registering new borrowers. * Perform support duties and special projects: Specific support duties for the Intermittent Library Associate IV may include supporting collection maintenance or other assign tasks * Education: High School Diploma or Graduate Equivalent Degree (GED) is required. Postsecondary education and/or relevant work experience will be considered in determining candidate competitiveness. * Experience using information resources in print and electronic formats: Experience using basic print reference and readers' advisory resources, such as dictionaries, directories, encyclopedias, online databases and maps. Experience searching licensed databases and web search engines. Ability to use the Library's website to provide current knowledge of services, resources, programs and events that are available to patrons throughout the Library system. Familiarity with other public technology support systems is helpful. * Excellent customer service and communication skills: Must have at least three (3) years of professional experience in providing customer service to the general public. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively respond to patrons' communications and inquiries, resolve issues among staff and between staff and patrons. Must be able to communicate in English, orally and in writing, and comprehend spoken and written English. Ability to troubleshoot minor computer and office equipment issues and assist patrons with resolving issues related to computers and office equipment is helpful. Key Programs/Initiatives include: * Best Starts for Kids Sustain the Gain Investment Strategies (Ages 5 to 24) * Child Care Subsidies and Wage Boost Pilot * Puget Sound Taxpayer Accountability Account's K-12 and post-secondary investment strategies * Employment, Education and Training Services Job Duties To be considered for this opportunity, you must at a minimum, demonstrate the knowledge, skill, and ability to: * Develop, implement and manage the referral process of youth and community members who experienced harm from the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office (PAO) to KCYDI contracted community-based services; * Contact referred youth and/or their families to engage them and refer them to community-based navigation services from contracted community-based organizations; * Partner with the Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) community-based organizations providing KCDYI navigation services to standardize the intake and assessment process; * Work with partners to identify system barriers and strategies to drive continuous quality improvement that leads to better outcomes for youth/young adults (decreased involvement in the legal system; positive youth development; positive cultural identity; completion of secondary credentials, enrollment into post-secondary, persistence in post-secondary, employment); * Work with County stakeholders, including, but not limited to, Department of Public Defense, Prosecuting Attorney's Office, King County Superior Court, Care First and other Department of Community and Human Services (DHCS) staff to ensure that youth have access to the services and programming they need to meet their goals and avoid further involvement in the criminal legal system; * Work with DCHS Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation team and the KCYDI Program Manager to ensure that contractors are submitting all data related to referrals and enrollments, and assessing effectiveness of the referral process for community based diversion; * Collaborate with the KCDYI team to ensure that provider agencies receiving County funding are providing high quality, outcome-based services to young people; * Collaborate with the KCDYI team to ensure that provider agencies have access to technical assistance and professional development when needed; * Maintain up-to-date information on the program capacity, and the needs of youth and young adults involved in/at-risk of involvement in the legal system, including a gaps-analysis; * Establish collaborative partnerships and effective communication with community-based agencies providing services to young people and their families; * Provide strong customer service to contracted providers and referred youth and families to resolve concerns and/or requests; * Other duties as assigned. Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills We are looking for candidates who: * Can manage complex programs serving Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) youth and young adults (12-24). * Have knowledge of equity and social justice principles, including how place, race, policy, and systemic inequities impact communities. * Have recent experience working with BIPOC youth and/or community organizations. * Are experienced with liberation- and healing-centered programming, including restorative justice approaches for youth and families. * Can apply a race equity framework to programs serving BIPOC youth and young adults (12-24). * Are experienced in collecting, managing, and analyzing data for reporting and quality improvement. * Have strong customer service skills and ability to build rapport with young people. * Are experienced in developing and sustaining partnerships that support collaboration and shared commitments. * Have the demonstrated ability to build teams and support effective teamwork. * Can multitask and perform well under shifting deadlines and expectations. * Are experienced in using case-management databases (e.g., Access, Apricot, Efforts to Outcomes) for data entry, reporting, and quality improvement. Although considered part-time, employees in these positions can work up to 40 hours per week if needed. * Monitors the activities of swimmers to ensure rules and regulations are observed and that safety hazards are not created. * Required to rescue persons in distress or in danger of drowning, administer first aid in the event of injury, and assist handicapped and elderly patrons in and out of the pool. * Conducts instructional programs for children, adults, and special population groups; teaches private and group swimming lessons, water safety classes, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming, competitive programs, and water fitness programs to all ages and abilities. * May teach first aid, CPR, AED, Lifeguard Training, and other specialized Red Cross classes. * Ensures the pool meets legal requirements and policy standards for operation. * Assists in water quality testing, cleaning, and maintaining the pool and related facilities. * Interacts with the public, answers inquiries pertaining to the use of the pool. * Maintains attendance and grading for instructional programs, and other related duties as required. * Employees in these positions can work up to 40 hours per week. Minimum Qualifications: * Must be at least 16 years of age. * Must pass a background check and physical. * Lifeguards are required to swim a minimum of 500 yards each workday and be prepared to perform in an emergency situation.
