DESCRIPTION
Learn to perform a variety of peace officer duties involving the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, criminal investigation, crime prevention and suppression, case preparation and testimony; provide information and assistance to the public; this is the first working level class in law enforcement expected to perform all duties required to effectively respond to and resolve the normal scope of peace officer situations.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This class is entry level. Candidates are expected to attend the Nevada Police Academy and participate in on-the-job training.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in counseling, psychology, social work, sociology, human services, or a closely related field
* Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in public safety, mental health counseling, crisis intervention, substance abuse counseling, or a closely related field

Safekey & Teen Scene
Safekey is a before- and after-school recreational enrichment program offered at all Henderson elementary schools. This fun-filled program focuses on crafts, games, cooking, and special activities. Teen Scene is an after-school program for children in grades 6-8 offered at some Henderson middle schools and offers participants arts and crafts, cooking, sports, field trips, and social events. PURPOSE Police Recruits that successfully complete the Police Academy will be promoted to a vacant Police Officer position when it becomes available. The Police Officer position has a five-step pay schedule. The starting pay is Step 1 - $34.85 per hour or $72,488 annually (as of 7/17/2025, subject to change).
Incumbents attend, participate, and successfully complete the POST-certified Police Recruit Training Academy prior to being commissioned as a Police Officer.

Operate and maintain a variety of facility and program-related equipment and supplies to ensure that all programs, activities, and facilities operate at optimal levels.
Assist the Recreation Coordinator in coordinating with groups to ensure that the recreation center and other facilities are utilized at the maximum level of efficiency, and that such facilities are adequately supervised and maintained during all activities and events. Responds to inquiries and provides information relating to the pool facility and its programs.
Performs maintenance, cleaning and water quality control as directed.
Wears appropriate uniform including red suit, whistle, staff or lifeguard shirt.

Covers and uncovers the pool.
Inspects the pool and equipment daily for safety and usability.
Vacuums the pool and takes pool readings as directed.
Maintains good physical fitness and skill proficiency - workout swim 500 meters once per week.
