Position Description
The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as PoliceOfficers (Recruit). PoliceOfficer Recruits attend the Police Academy and training sessions, and actively participate in all academy and training activities to learn the skills, knowledge, and functions required to become a sworn policeofficer. PoliceOfficers are responsible for: learning and performing tasks employing patrol methods, community relations, courtroom procedures, fingerprinting, report preparation, physical agility and strength formulation, and other policeofficer-related duties; learning uses of various firearms and first aid methods; participating in field training with a senior PoliceOfficer; operating miscellaneous equipment including emergency vehicles, radar, and breath alcohol analyzers; writing and filing daily activity reports with a training officer; assisting an officer in patrolling assigned areas of the City in a car, bicycle, or on foot; learning standard broadcasting procedures of a dispatch radio system; and performing related work as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution and must be 21 years of age by academy graduation.
Above average physical conditioning; includes running, climbing, crawling, and possess the ability to pass and maintain an entry level officer's physical fitness requirements.

Supplemental information will be required for application to be considered. Qualified candidates will be invited to take their written exam at the Tolleson Police Department.
All candidates must complete the PoliceOfficer Selection Test with a 70% or better score.
OR
Applicants who have obtained an Associate degree or higher or 60+ college credit hours may bypass the written exam.
If applicant wishes to use college course work in lieu of taking the written exam they must attach at minimum unofficial transcripts at time of application but be able to provide official transcripts during the background process.
The 60+ credit hours shall include a minimum of 15 semester units of general education courses as described below:

ABOUT THIS JOB
Position Summary
The PoliceOfficer Recruit position at the City of Tucson's Police Department trains at the Police Academy as a new police recruit to learn the skills and functions of a PoliceOfficer, under the guidance of experienced police personnel.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Police Sergeant. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Attends lectures on law enforcement related topics, with a course of study that may include Arizona Revised Statutes, constitutional law, policies and procedures, and crime scene management. Studies material presented in lectures to ensure satisfactory performance in required examinations.
* Performs police related training tasks such as arrest and control tactics, defensive tactics, firearms proficiency, technical vehicle operation, and emergency response driving.
* Practices various scenarios related to law enforcement duties; scenarios may include crimes in progress, crime scene management, and other situations they may encounter as PoliceOfficers.
* Performs aerobic and anaerobic exercises to increase strength and endurance. Participates in physical activities such as running, weightlifting, bodyweight exercises, and other cardiovascular activities.
* Completes multiple academic exams with a passing score. Completes and passes proficiency evaluations, which may include firearms, driving, and defensive tactics. Completes Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZ POST) PoliceOfficer Physical Agility Test (POPAT) with a passing score. Completes and passes AZ POST comprehensive exam.
* Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Job Summary
The Maricopa County Community College District Police Department invites highly motivated and professional law enforcement candidates to a new and exciting opportunity as a collegiate PoliceOfficer - Lateral.

Essential Functions

* Observes, reports and/or remedies unsafe or problem situations and assists in identifying health and safety hazards
* Conducts face to face interviews; observes, gathers, records, processes and preserves evidence
* Prepares detailed written reports; presents testimony and evidence in court; mediates disputes
* Directs traffic and/or parking activities; enforces motor vehicle operation and traffic regulations; assists motorists with vehicle problems
* Performs crowd control and civil emergency response duties

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED and the successful graduation from an AZPOST certified training academy.
Note: Applicants who possess an AZPOST certification but have not completed a probationary period with a previous agency may be considered for hire with a positive recommendation from their previous chain of command at the rank of Commander or higher.

* Possession and maintenance of a valid Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) certification as a Peace Officer in the State of Arizona, including the satisfaction of all qualifications (age, citizenship, background, psychological, ethical, medical, or otherwise) required for such certification, at the date of or subsequent to the date of hire. A valid certification is to indicate that the individual is authorized to engage in enforcement duties, carry a firearm, wear or display a badge, make arrests, perform patrol functions, and operate a marked police vehicle. Certifications that are restricted are not considered valid for the purpose of initial hire.
* Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Arizona Driver License (Class D) with an initial and ongoing driving record to the satisfaction of MCCCD.
* Current CPR/First Aid certification is required for the duration of employment within this classification.
Background Check: Because of the confidential and sensitive nature of information handled, successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation, which may include, but is not limited to, polygraph testing, fingerprinting, and a psychological examination to the initial and ongoing satisfaction of MCCCD is required.
Firearms: Positions within this classification have frequent exposure to firearms and are regularly required to carry a firearm. Incumbents must successfully complete initial and ongoing firearms qualification in compliance with AZPOST requirements. Such qualification will occur on an annual basis or on another schedule, in compliance with any applicable laws, rules, or regulations, as determined by MCCCD. Incumbents must maintain the legal ability to carry and utilize firearms in the course of their duties at all times during employment within this classification.
Substance Abuse Testing: Due to the nature of police work, positions within this classification shall be subject to pre-employment, ongoing/random, and/or incident-based alcohol, drug, and/or controlled substance testing in compliance with any applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (at job entry)
Education and Experience:

Special Requirements:
* This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances;
