1822

In 1822, Charles Maclaren proclaimed that the mound of Hisarlik was the exact location.

1860

Those who did believe in the existence of a real Troy thought it to be at Bunarbashi (Pınarbaşı), a short distance south of Hisarlık. It took Frank Calvert, a scholarly amateur archaeologist, until 1860 to begin exploratory work on Hisarlık.

1900

1900 to 1100 bce). Troy at this time had new and vigorous settlers who introduced domesticated horses to the Aegean area.

1955

Commercial and industrial development reached Oakland County after World War II. The City of Troy was established as a home rule city in 1955 and during the next 25 years, the community experienced extraordinary growth.

1970

The objects were technically shielded from repatriation by a 1970 Unesco treaty prohibiting museums from acquiring artifacts that left their country of origin after 1970 without full documentation.

1988

Beginning in 1988, Korfmann’s team investigated the terrain surrounding the citadel site in search of wider settlement.

He began working as a student here in 1988, and spent years as a protégé of the German archaeologist Manfred Korfmann, who made several important discoveries.

2004

The city center also has a good variety of restaurants along the seafront (Kordon), where you will also get to see the wooden Trojan horse model used in the 2004 Wolfgang Petersen movie “Troy”.

2012

After 2012, Canakkale 18 Mart University continues the excavations with the new team under the direction of Rustem Aslan from Canakkale 18 Mart University.

2018

The Troy Museum, an $8 million showcase adjacent to the ruins that spans 5,000 years of history, opened in October 2018.

2019

In 2019, he dug down to the bedrock and uncovered the remains—pottery shards, wooden beams—of a pre-Bronze Age settlement from 3500 B.C., showing that Troy was at least 600 years older than archaeologists had previously thought.

2022
