City of Vista, CA company history timeline

1967

California Lilac was adopted as the official City flower on February 21, 1967 and Anna's Hummingbird was also adopted at that time as the official City bird.

The Vista Historical Society was founded in 1967 as the Vista Ranchos Historical Society under the direction of its first president Cloyd Sorensen, Jr.

1973

The same family owned the rancho until the County acquired it in 1973.

1989

In 1989, the City of Vista acquired the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe for the citizens of Vista.

1998

On September 8,1998 the City officially adopted the Kentia Palm as the City tree.

2002

Larimer has been the director since 2002 but has lived in the city for as long as he can remember and said it’s an honor to do the job he has been entrusted with.

2006

By 2006, the population of Vista grew to over 94,000.

2015

In 2015, the City of Vista mapped out a Downtown Vista specific plan for the continued revitalization of downtown, reestablishing it as Vista' s commercial, social, and cultural center.

2016

A couple of blocks away on Broadway, Belching Beaver Tavern & Grill, which opened its doors in 2016, is also attracting more visitors downtown and adding to the city’s thriving brewery and restaurant scene.

2017

2018

One of them is Shaks Mediterranean Bistro, which opened in Vista in the fall of 2018 after closing its Armenian Café in Carlsbad due to the purchase and opening of a new hotel.
