City Year was founded in 1988 as a national service program to unite young adults from diverse backgrounds for a demanding year of full-time community service.
The Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS) is an independent federal agency established in 1993 that deploys more than 3 million Americans in service through its core programs, including AmeriCorps.
Founded in Johannesburg in 2005, City Year South Africa is a full-time national youth service programme that brings together a diverse group of 18-25 year olds for a year of voluntary service, civic engagement and leadership development.
In response to South Africa’s youth unemployment crisis, City Year South Africa launched its flagship "ServeToWork" model in 2017, a progamme designed to help service leaders transition from City Year into the workforce.
