Civil design technician job description

Responsibilities

This individual must be skilled in the use of Autodesk Civil 3D to perform the following tasks: Creating alignments, creating surfaces and contours, generating plan and profile sheets, creating roadway corridors, and using Civil 3D styles for labeling.

As a firm, we are committed to issuing our drawings using Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and Navisworks. To be qualified for this role you must have experience and be proficient in the use of the current versions all three.

In this position, the individual will be required to work closely with a team of Civil Engineers and Technicians on a variety of projects.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent + basic drafting/CAD training
• Minimum of 2 years Land/Site Development drafting experience
• Minimum of 2 years of Civil 3D
• Navisworks design experience preferred
• Proficient in AutoCAD, latest version

CPH has an opening in its Orlando, Florida office for the following position:

Civil Designer/CAD Technician with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Water and Wastewater Plant Design and Construction Plan Production.

This position provides an opportunity for a skilled, self-motivated, and detail-oriented professional to join an established, growing Architectural and Engineering Design Firm. Designer/CAD Technician Duties Include:

Development and production of detailed drawings in AutoCAD/ Civil 3D to comply with DEP and local agency requirements. Strong Emphasis on CAD capabilities, speed and accuracy.
Coordination with all Disciplines involved in project.
Development and production of Construction Plans sufficient for bidding and for construction.
Preparation of data and calculation of quantities, areas, etc. customary civil engineering plan design.
Plotting, collating and compiling plan sets as required for agency and construction submittals.
General office and administrative tasks including, but not limited to, couriering, scanning, copies, document preparation, filing, etc.
Travel to project sites or other locations for reconnaissance, construction observation and meetings.

Requirements:
The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a Civil Engineering Firm.
Experience in Water and Wastewater Plant Design is required.
This candidate needs to be a self-starter, highly motivated, team player, with good communication skills and ready to design and draft private, public and utility projects with little supervision.
Flexibility to work more than 40 hours as needed preferred

Purpose

Support assigned engineers, planners, landscape architects, or other technical positions by providing technical support and translating technical notes, sketches, electronic data and/or drawings into documentable technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

At the Operational and Company Level

* Work closely with more senior staff members to learn and assist in design work.

Do the Work

* Draft plans/mark-ups for the purpose of creating construction documents.
* Review all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting for review.
* Revise plans according to client, manager, or reviewer comments.
* Assist in organizing and maintaining all CAD or CAD related files for clients, town, or county intake.
* May assist in the responsibility of submitting plans on time.
* Ability to adhere to office CAD standards and practices.
* Obtain work assignments of either specific design elements to CAD drafting duties from project manager with allocated budgets.
* Perform non-routine and complex assignments from verbal instructions under minimum supervision.

Minimum Requirements

* High school diploma or GED. Associates Degree is preferred.
* College drafting courses, certificate or Associates degree strongly preferred.
* Minimum of zero to three (0-3) years' drafting and engineering technician experience in the land development industry.
* Must have classroom and/or working experience with Civil 3D design software.
* Experience with computer applications and design software such as AutoCAD, Microsoft office, etc.
* Excellent communication skills in working effectively with government officials, clients, and staff members.
* Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures.
* Ability to read and interpret documents.
