This role offers a hybrid work arrangement. You'll spend three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.
This position will offer you the opportunity to work with multi-disciplined engineering and design project teams to use your creativity and innovation to develop 3D models of civil grading and structures to produce civil drawing deliverables within CAD software.
This entry-level position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your drafting skills, while working in a multi-disciplined team environment with other designers and/or engineers in the preparation of design drawings based on design input.
You will have the opportunity to apply your computer-aided drafting skills, while receiving hands-on training in 3D design software environments, such as AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation; additionally, you will receive training in Sargent & Lundy's award-winning, industry-recognized proprietary design databases.
You will be involved in creating master sketches to scale showing relation of proposed installations to new and/or existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions.
While interfacing with vendors and construction contractors, you may be given the opportunity to explain your drawings so appropriate design adjustments can be made.

Essential skills and experience:
Associates Degree in Computer Aided Design Technology preferred.
CAD certificate required in non-degreed.
Previous relevant experience considered.
Experience using AutoCAD and MicroStation software.

Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.

Derrick Custom Homes is a leading custom home builder and remodeler in Western Wisconsin. With in-house architecture and interior design, we are fully equipped to provide clients with fully custom homes and remodels. We are seeking a drafter to join our architectural team.
Location: New Richmond, WI although technology has made it possible to work remotely, it is preferred that the applicant be comfortable with working in the office day-to-day. It is imperative to the training process and continued communication that face-to-face interaction occur between the architects and drafters.
Duties and Responsibilities
The selected applicant will work closely with the other drafters and design team to prepare bid and construction drawings from rough drawings and sketches. Work with the remodeling team to visit homes and take the measurements necessary to create as-built drawings and remodeling plans. During the design and construction process, update the drawings and add needed plan notes. Create custom detail drawings as needed. Work with the design staff to help create painting plans and hardware plans.
Skills and Qualifications
Drafting - Strong technical drafting skills, with some knowledge of residential architecture principals preferred.
Detail - Attention to detail is critical.
Software - Revit, Bluebeam.
Collaborative - Be able to thrive in a collaborative work environment, working closely with the architects and other design staff on a day-to-day basis.
Communication - Effective written and verbal skills, with consistent communication habits.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
0-5 years of experience in a similar position.
Associate degree in architectural drafting preferred but not required.
Experience with Revit.

This hybrid role combines responsibilities in computer-aided drafting (CAD) with project cost estimation to support design development and project bidding processes. Responsibilities:
CAD Drafting (50%)
Develop detailed 2D and/or 3D CAD drawings and technical schematics based on architectural, engineering, or product requirements.
Revise drawings as needed to reflect changes in scope or design direction.
Coordinate with project engineers, architects, or fabricators to ensure drawing accuracy and completeness.
Maintain drawing standards, document version control, and organize project files.
Generate shop drawings, construction details, and layout plans for fabrication or installation.
Estimating (50%)
Review architectural and engineering drawings to prepare accurate and timely cost estimates.
Analyze labor, material, and time requirements to develop bid packages and proposals.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and risks throughout the preconstruction process.
Participate in job walks, RFI processes, and proposal presentations as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Associate's degree or equivalent technical training in Drafting, Construction Management, Construction Technology, Engineering, or related field.
2-5 years of experience in a CAD or estimating role (or hybrid), preferably in the stone fabrication industry.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino, SolidWorks, or other relevant CAD platforms.
Familiarity with estimating software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, ProEst, or Excel-based estimating tools.
Strong mathematical skills and knowledge of construction or fabrication methodologies.
Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with CAM software such as MasterCAM, EasyStone, or other CAM platforms.
Understanding of building codes, construction materials, and contract documents.

Submit RFIs to clients and RFQs to vendors for clarity on cost, feasibility, and lead times.
Estimate labor hours or coordinate with the Shop Foreman for hour projections.
Draft scope language for client proposals and align with our Client Service Manager.
Lead estimating and proposal development for CNC-only jobs using Paperless Parts.
Coordination & Organization
Maintain clean, accurate project files and ensure updated models are uploaded weekly.
Build and maintain a digital library of frequently used parts and non-standard components.
Follow all SFM CAD standards for modeling, file structure, and documentation clarity.
Provide proactive weekly updates to your Manager regarding progress and hours.
Flag scope changes, missing information, or timeline risks early so the team stays aligned.
What You Bring

3+ years drafting experience in architectural, mechanical, or fabrication settings (portfolio required).

KDM Engineering is seeking a self-motivated Drafter who will prepare clear, complete and accurate detailed drawings using AutoCAD from field sketches, original drawings or satellite images, mark-ups, existing as-builts, site maps, photos, and field notes. A drafter will be designing drawings using AutoCAD applying engineering standards and specifications. It is expected that the drafter will complete drawing packages in a timely manner using personal knowledge and exercising discretion and judgement to maintain a high level of quality, accuracy, and professionalism, and acute attention to detail.
Primary responsibilities
Analyze client requests/engineering sketches
Understand the use of Adobe Acrobat (pdf files), digital photographs (jpeg files), google earth, Microsoft Office products and internet search engines
Scale engineering drawings using AutoCAD
Calculating lay outs of right-of-way and/or street dimensions and angles
Creating preliminary and/or final sketch of proposed drawings
Modifying drawings based on engineer designs
Creating as-build drawings upon completion of project
Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as necessary
Job Requirements
Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS) and Certification in AutoCAD or the equivalent education or experience.
