An Assistant Civil Designer will assist in various phases of planning, proposal preparation, site evaluations, and preparation of construction drawings. This position will utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.
Performs other duties as assigned
Assist in designing various civil projects utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D. Some example tasks would include: site design, land development, roads, storm drainage systems, storm water management facilities, and sediment and erosion control.
Assist with a full range of drawing production work utilizing sheet set manager, grading objects, X-Refs, and data references.
Preparation of engineering drawings from red lines, sketches, verbal feedback, and client feedback.
Assist with initial rough designs or sketches and mark-ups for ongoing projects.
Coordination of CAD files with other disciplines and clients internally and externally.
Compute volume calculations for excavation, grading, and roadway design.
Produce drawings and sketches using cross-sections and surveys to show elevations, contours, and proposed grade.
Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
Perform quantity take-offs on models and design files to support estimate development.
Prepare functional model exports for distribution to subcontractors and construction personnel.
Incorporate schedules, budgets, and project criteria into civil design and layouts.
Familiar with AutoCAD Civil 3D labels.

Complete development engineering reviews including, but not limited to: Grading and Drainage Plans, Water and Sewer Plans, Paving Plans, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Signing and Striping Plans, Streetlight Plans, Landscaping Plans, Streetlight and Maintenance Improvement Districts (MID & SLID), Preliminary and Final Plats, Drainage Reports, Water and Sewer Reports, and/or Soils Reports.
Coordinate with both internal and external customers to review and process development projects from planning to permitting and the inspection stage.
Attend meetings and clearly communicate engineering requirements to developers, engineers, planners, architects, city officials and the public.

SUMMARY

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have at time of hire and be able to maintain a State of Arizona Professional CivilEngineer license (PE) or an equivalency through state reciprocity. Must have at time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Arizona Driver License. Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification preferred.

Application Tips
Assist Public Works Department (PWD) Engineers with components of engineering projects, performs basic technical civilengineering functions within scope of authority and training in assigned area of responsibility, apply acquired knowledge and skills, and make technical decisions within defined procedural limits under basic supervision.
* Assist in the design, planning, coordination, and inspection of assigned components of PWD engineering projects and perform work within scope of authority and training in assigned area of responsibility.
* Assist engineering staff as needed, assist with the preparation of engineering designs, graphics, specifications, and PWD project estimates, research plans and technical documentation to acquire information needed for the management of PWD projects, and assist with safety inspections and on-site project evaluations.
* Perform research, analysis, and evaluations of designs, plans, reports, specifications, and estimates and review plans, specifications, proposals, and project documentation to maintain PWD quality standards.
* Maintain and update computer files, tracking systems, and databases, write various technical documents and reports, and make technical estimates of a specialized nature in connection with various projects.
* Conduct traffic, flood control, and engineering research by compiling and calculating field data and examine project plans for technical accuracy and compliance to design standards.
* Prepare and maintain technical reports, work logs, maps, and documents for engineering projects, maintain contractor and procurement files, and prepare reports and estimates.
* Assist in preparing and compiling bid documents and specifications, documenting scope of work, and soliciting bids and quotes and assist with contracts and purchase agreements for services and material.
