The Civil Engineer is responsible to plan, coordinate, and direct land surveying, civil engineering, and utility locating projects. The Civil Engineer will lead and oversee designated projects, striving to complete projects within agreed budgets and timelines. The Civil Engineer performs and/or coordinates all aspects of civil engineering projects, both in the field and in the office, including preparing technicians for field and office duties, and performing advanced level professional engineering work in design, construction, and maintenance of private and public works projects. The Civil Engineer is responsible to establish and maintain friendly, professional relationships with project managers during course of work on a project and must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Additional responsibilities include mentor, support, and coach growth and improvement in the civil design capabilities of junior staff, and special projects as directed by supervising manager. *ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* 1. Project Management, including oversight, direction and support of field and office work associated with Civil Design and Land Survey projects a. Research, gather and supply essential documents and materials to direct the completion of field and/or office work b. Delegate and supervise Civil and Survey techs on assigned tasks * Verify the work performed by assigned Technicians for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques and compliance with applicable engineering standards and specifications * Guide and direct technician staff to stay on course with project schedules and budgets by monitoring completion of assigned field and office tasks * Be available to troubleshoot and/or provide guidance to Civil and Survey Technicians when issues arise with assigned work c. Drive completion of survey projects within contracted budgets and timeframes; provide regular updates to management and ownership on project budget and/or timeline slippage d. Effectively manage scope creep through timely communication and negotiation of Extra Work requirement when scope and/or client needs change e. Maintain project files and include all notes, communications, research and design documents 2. Prepare and oversee detailed civil engineering design in connection with municipal public works and private capital improvement projects a. Perform advanced professional engineering design that includes civil/site, roadway, drainage, stormwater management, pipelines, municipal and transportation structures, and signalized intersections b. Generate professional engineering plans, specifications, technical calculations, and engineering reports as dictated by assigned projects c. Conduct and oversee site observations, existing conditions backchecking, and written field reports d. Check plans and specifications to ensure a high level of standard for accuracy and completeness e. Review development plans and capital improvement plans and make recommendations regarding design, constructability, maintenance, and traffic related issues * Meet with developers and/or consultants to resolve issues f. Sign and stamp deliverables 3. Build and enhance Bedrock's brand reputation and client relations a. Ensure clients have a clear understanding of their rights, responsibilities, and obligations in relation to survey requirements by providing quality, timely advice and information b. Promote frequent and open channels of communication by providing project status updates when sensible, keeping the client “looped in” on work progress c. Manage client expectations to execute project deliverables on time 4. Proactively communicate relative workload to Operations Manager and plan work to attempt to balance existing workload. a.
