Job Description The Junior Civil Engineer will work closely with other engineers and CAD technicians on various civil, solid waste, and environmental related projects in our Birmingham, AL office. The projects are challenging and provide unique design opportunities. You will be responsible for designing solid waste facilities that will enable LaBella to create sustainable, cost-effective solutions tailored to the specific needs of our clients. The projects are intricate and incorporate both civil and environmental engineering skills, including land development (grading and stormwater management); leachate collection, treatment, and management; renewable energy designs; and organic waste management. Brand new, already operational, and closed solid waste facilities face many different types of challenges - there is never a dull moment, nor is there a cookie-cutter solution that fits every similar situation. Duties: Projects will include solid-waste related site development projects: developing master plans, design drawings, design of stormwater management and erosion control systems, technical specifications, and cost estimates. Preparing various types of related reports and studies to secure permitting for projects. Drafting work for scoping/conceptual work/engineering packages. Position will require some travel to clients' facilities to better understand design issues and to monitor construction progress. Requirements Minimum requirements include a BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Passed the FE Exam with intent to obtain Professional Engineer license, and 0 to 5 years of experience, including solid waste, land development, or closely related projects. Knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil3D. Assist with the selling, marketing, and branding of services of SARCOR Directs and coordinates activities of Project Engineers, Engineers, Technicians, and Inspectors to ensure the project progresses on schedule and within the prescribed budget Performs work with the preparation of transportation design using local (State, County, or City) or AASHTO standards at both conceptual and final design levels Typical duties are likely to include the following: Coordination with all complimentary disciplines (roadway, drainage, structural, traffic, public involvement, and environmental), technical preparation and supervision of roadway and planning design tasks, performing plan quality reviews, participation in value engineering studies Full managerial responsibility for all aspects of the project; scope, schedule, design, quality, staff, etc. Reviews proposals and sales activities as well as leads and participates in interviews and presentations Maintains positive relationships with current, past, and future clients Prepare and/or delegate and review monthly progress status reports for project files and for submission to clients Distribute meeting minutes for internal and external documentation and transparency Provide project information needed for invoices Represents SARCOR at meetings, presentations, and public hearings relative to assigned projects Supervises the design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with City, State, and County officials, and other outside agencies Reviews plans, prepares or reviews technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates Assures that the project team complies with the contract agreement as well as exercises rigid cost control to implement the approved design within established budget restraints Develops and mentor less experienced staff Assist with determining scope and estimates for design and CE&I projects Maintain profitability, attend project meetings as required, correspond with the owner and contractors, visit job sites as required, and demonstrate safety first Maintain exceptional customer service Demonstrate good judgment and ethical behavior Maintain excellent written, verbal communication, and organizational skills Always maintain a professional character Be flexible with assigned work duties Take initiative and be proactive in learning new skillsets Manage working hours responsibly Utilize the Company's systems and processes Maintain Company confidentiality Maintain a valid driver's license and excellent driving record Drive to safely drive to and from meetings or project sites in your own vehicle Other duties as assigned Maintain personal hygiene Clean up after yourself in the office and on-site Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a closely related field Engineering In Training (EIT) (verification required) Ability to obtain professional engineering license within 6 years Proficient with design software tools such as MicroStation/OpenRoads and AutoCAD Civil 3D Ability to perform design services including, but not limited to, site layout, grading and drainage, utility plan, erosion and sedimentation control, and plans in Civil 3D ALDOT or municipal experience preferred Ability to efficiently work on multiple designs of civil/transportation engineering projects at a time, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget Working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, and other MS Office products Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills Valid driver's license required Must have your own source of reliable transportation Ability to sit or stand long hours Ability to walk significant distances Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted Preferred Qualifications ALDOT or municipal experience preferred Ability to create 3-D models and renderings Compensation: $46,000.00 - $53,500.00 per year SARCOR is a civil and transportation engineering design firm with over 80 years of combined experience.
