Job Duties
Leads roadway design projects and project delivery teams from concept through completion, ensuring that all projects are delivered on time, and within budget.
Production of transportation design plans, specifications and cost estimates for the following projects: Roadway, interstate, bridge, surface treatment/pavement rehabilitation, and drainage. Duties also include leading design staff and modeling.
Works closely with Project Managers and Senior Engineering Staff.
Serves as the Engineer of Record for assigned projects.
Develops and manages project-level budgets; to include establishing and enforcing systems requirements, responsibilities and standards supporting the financial success of SOL.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in civilengineering from an ABET accredited school (a Master's Degree in CivilEngineering is a plus).
5+ years of transportation engineering experience.
Current Professional Engineering registration in the State of Mississippi or current Professional Engineer registration in another U.S. State with the ability to successfully obtain registration in the State of Mississippi within one year from date of application submittal to SOL.
Proficiency at producing construction documents using Bentley MicroStation and Open Road Design (ORD). Additional experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.
Excellent ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally with internal and external partners including clients, sub consultants and utility companies.
Excellent time and project management skills.
Very organized, dependable, and professional.
Experience with mandatory/permitting at federal, state, regional, county, and local levels is a plus.

What You Will Do:
Design and analyze structural components of rocket motors including but not limited to cases, nozzles, insulators.
Design and update related motor component models including metallic parts, nozzles, insulation
Perform 2D and 3D structural analysis to support your design process
Function as a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) expert and generate reports and results for parts, assemblies, and other features based on given loads
Create and revise drawings and models that lead directly to manufacturing
Collaborate with vendors to determine the appropriate materials and methods to produce parts
Develop and maintain engineering documentation (drawings, requirements, analysis reports, test plans/reports, etc.)
Support composite manufacturing processes such as tape wrapping or molding
Plan and oversee testing and instrumentation for development and qualification of flight hardware
Create designs to support proposals and internal advanced development topics
Support all phases of manufacturing, assembly and test of your designs
What You Need to Have:
3+ years of experience in related role in aerospace, automotive or related industry
B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (M.S. preferred) or similar.
Strong understanding of the materials, components and operating conditions found in Solid Rocket Motors
Specifically including orthotropic composites of various types
Highly preferred: viscoelastic and hyperelastic materials and their models
Demonstrated experience in modern CAD and analysis tools: Solidworks and Abaqus Preferred
Well versed in modern manufacturing methods
You need to communicate well with other people in writing and speaking.
You need to manage your time and tasks well.
You need to work well with others in different locations.

APTIM is currently seeking an energetic and motivated CivilEngineering intern to join our team of engineers and scientists in support various project activities. The CivilEngineer Intern will support civilengineering teams in the planning, design, analysis, and construction support of infrastructure and site development projects. This internship provides hands-on experience working alongside licensed engineers and project teams on real-world projects while developing technical, analytical, and professional skills. APTIM's internship program provides students with the opportunity to acquire real-world knowledge and skills that will help focus efforts on the most appropriate field of study. Interns will be paired with experienced engineering and science staff who will provide training on specific tasks, and also mentorship on the environmental assessment, remediation, and infrastructure business. This is a Temporary position.
The STRIVE Internship Program is a 12-week experience running from May 18, 2026 through August 7, 2026. Interns are required to be fully available during Week 1 (May 18--22) and Week 12 (August 3--7) of the program. Week 12 includes company-paid travel to an APTIM office (location to be announced) for an end-of-internship celebration.
Interns are expected to minimize absences to ensure a meaningful program experience. The program observes Memorial Day (May 25, 2026) and Independence Day (July 3, 2026, observed).
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
* Dedication to learning applicable regulatory rules and guidance as well as company policies and procedures.
* Works on straightforward tasks using established procedures. All work will be subject to review by experienced engineering and science staff.
* Collaborate with current engineering staff in the interpretation of engineering data, conduct engineering analyses, and perform calculations and modeling utilizing appropriate software packages.
* Assistance in implementing remedial actions designed by professional engineering staff.
* Assist with the preparation of civilengineering designs, calculations, and technical documents
* Support site development, grading, drainage, utilities, and roadway design tasks
* Assist with data collection, field observations, and site inspections as needed
* Prepare and revise drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D)
* Perform basic engineering calculations and quantity take-offs
* Assist with reports, specifications, and cost estimates
* Coordinate with project team members to support project schedules and deliverables
* Review plans and documents for accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards
* Maintain organized project files and documentation
* Follow company safety policies and procedures
Basic Qualifications:
* Attending an accredited educational institution pursuing a degree in Civil or Engineering or closely related field.
* Preference is for candidate to have completed their Junior year in college with expected graduation in 2026.
* Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills
* Must be a self-starter, excel in time management, and work well under pressure.
* Must be available to work in various settings such as in an office or remotely in the field, depending on project needs.
* Ability to complete 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and wear proper personal protective equipment for work on hazardous waste sites.
* Lifting and physical work will be required.
* Must be at least 18 years of age with a clean driving record.
* Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA with at least 60 hours of coursework completed
