Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Structural Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Des Moines. This position offers an excellent opportunity to further your expertise in structural engineering and take on greater responsibility in the design and execution of complex projects.
As a Design Engineer, you will work closely with senior engineers, contributing to the analysis, design, and documentation of a variety of structural systems.
Lead and Contribute to Structural Design: Perform structural analysis and design of building components, including framing systems, foundations, and connections, using industry-standard software and ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
Prepare and Review Structural Calculations and Documentation: Develop and verify complex structural calculations, prepare technical reports, and create design documentation to support project deliverables.
Collaborate in Design Development: Work with senior engineers to refine and develop design solutions for various structural systems, ensuring they meet project requirements and client expectations.

Qualifications

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

* Reviews projects under construction with assigned consultant to audit inspection process.
* Completes a variety of computations including distances, angles, as-built calculations, and quantities.
* Assists with maintaining and updating water and sanitary sewer system data by utilizing GIS software.
* Interprets and explains ordinances, codes and regulations to contractors, homeowners and interested parties.
* Assists other departments and divisions during emergencies and performs related duties as assigned.
Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Civil Engineering Technology, or related field; or have an equivalent amount of related work experience substituted at the rate of two (2) years of experience for one (1) year of education.
Shall possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Iowa.
Entry-level knowledge of modern principles and practices of public works, civil engineering, and municipal utilities operations and maintenance. Basic knowledge of computer aid drafting (CAD), geographic information systems (GIS), and surveying principles. Ability to communicate and cooperate with co-workers, contractors, and the general public.
REQUIRED SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I
Shall possess the following certifications (or be able to obtain within six (6) months from hire):
* Iowa DOT - Level I Portland Cement Concrete (PCC)
* Iowa DOT - Aggregate Sampler
CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN II
Shall have a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Civil Engineering Technician I (or comparable position) along with the above-mentioned certifications of the Technician I and possess the following certifications (or be able to obtain within six months from hire date):
* ITCP-CIPP Certification (Inspector Training Certification Program - Cured in Place Pipe Certification Class) - NASSCO
PACP Certification (Pipeline Assessment Certification Program) - NASSCO
WORKING CONDITIONS:
* Works in both a typical office and construction field environment.
* Is periodically called during off-hours to respond to citizen and construction related inquiries.
* Climbs and walks over uneven terrain.
* Required to work in adverse weather conditions for a period of time.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
* Work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
* Must be insurable.
* Must be sighted.
* Must be able to hear normal conversation.
* Must be able to speak clearly at normal rate of conversation.
* Must be able to kneel, squat, and walk.

This Opportunity:
This opportunity is open to candidates residing in the following states: Iowa and Nebraska
Lead planning, development, coordination, and direction of multiple wastewater infrastructure projects such as wastewater treatment, pumping, distribution, storage or conveyance
Maintain close relationships with clients throughout development of projects and after completion
Guide team in the development of creative solutions to complex wastewater treatment and conveyance challenges, working closely with our team of engineers, designers and other professionals
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to identify and mitigate project risks and deliver innovative solutions
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or other related engineering field of study
Registered as a Professional Engineer
Demonstrated experience with comprehensive design, construction and project management of a variety of wastewater treatment and / or conveyance projects
Proven experience in proposal writing and client management; demonstrated ability to develop new business opportunities and win project proposals
Must be located in Des Moines, Iowa, or Omaha, Nebraska, or surrounding areas with ability to travel for client meetings as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
Twenty (20) years of previous experience in civil engineering field
Fifteen (15) years previous experience with design, construction and project management of wastewater treatment and / or conveyance projects
Previous experience managing a staff of engineering professionals and serving as a technical mentor for junior level staff
Current affiliation and/or membership with local, state or national Civil Engineering societies and associations in Iowa and / or Nebraska
