The Project Engineer (PE) supports the Project Manager (PM) and Project Superintendent to facilitate a well-managed project. The PE works successfully with and responds promptly to requests from the PM to achieve goals and assists with the overall management and administration of projects, including pre-construction services, subcontractor management, RFI's, and the submittal process. Job Responsibilities Develops an understanding of construction safety practices and has the ability to stop work if unsafe conditions exist. Has a good grasp of construction terminology and a solid understanding of construction processes. Estimates CORs and assists in bidding, assembling an estimate, and subcontractor coordination. Understands all costs associated with a change request and aids the PM with change requests, Owner & Subcontractor change orders, and other items as needed. Reviews and tracks schedules to learn project flow. Ensures documentation and compliance by maintaining drawing revision logs, requesting pricing for changes in work, and evaluating/preparing/distributing RFIs. Reviews & processes submittals accurately and identifies key items of coordination for PM & Superintendent to review. Assists Superintendent in subcontract management by distributing drawings to subs and working on the submittal schedule and procurement process. Takes the lead role in the project closeout documentation. Tracks quantities for Self-Performed Work (SPW) productivity for monthly cost reports. Assists in running and completing meeting agendas. Completes contingency and allowance logs, etc. Performs additional responsibilities as assigned. Education & Experience Minimum required - Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field. Knowledge & Skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word. Previous experience using Viewpoint, Heavy Job, Heavy Bid, and Hammer Tech preferred. The position requires experience in heavy industrial engineering projects, preferably in the Metals, Midstream Oil & Gas, Refineries & Petrochemical and/or Utilities & Power Generation industries. The position requires the Structural Engineer to perform in varying roles related to detailed engineering design, project execution, technical support, and customer relationship development. Essential duties and responsibilities Field engineering and structural inspections as they relate to work scope. Assist with engineering studies, calculations, detailed design documents and specifications, project cost estimates, and providing installation support services. Perform analytical modeling of structures and components of structures utilizing STAAD software. Review calculations, drawings, and reports produced by other structural engineers in the office. Structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and foundation design. Develop, maintain, and upgrade technical standards/specifications to be used on specific projects, as well as centralized design basis and historical references. Complete all tasks in accordance with design and project execution procedures and guidelines as set forth in the corporate Quality Management System. Provide technical support for customers and support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource under the direction of a supervising engineer. Manage project progress relative to project plan, schedule, and budget. Contribute to company improvements in work flow, methods of work execution, and continued standards improvements. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important. Candidates should have a thorough understanding and aptitude in the use of current computer software (STAAD) including general office products, design and business enterprise software. This position will include some field engineering work and short duration travel will be expected from time to time. Work in elevated or in tight, confined space type areas. Use of negative pressure, air filtering/purifying respiratory protection may be required. Your Primary Responsibilities will include Performs engineering analysis and design (2D and 3D) for a variety of projects that may include: Roadways, intersections and related infrastructure, including new construction and rehabilitation. Waterdistribution systems and sanitary sewer collection system Hydraulic modeling Pump station modeling and analysis Water and wastewater treatment Lead a small team of junior engineers Prepares construction plans, specifications, and contract documents for contracting and bidding of construction projects. Conducts assessment and evaluation of existing system conditions and develops recommended remedial measures. Performs construction phase engineering, including periodic on-site reviews, in collaboration with Construction Services team. Maintains and documents written and verbal communications with clients throughout the development and completion of a project. Conducts project status review with project manager and team members, checking accuracy of work completed, and monitors timeliness of project completion. Prepares engineering studies and reports. Provides technical guidance and training to members of the project team. Prepares project design using sound engineering principles, engineering software and tools. Assists Project Manager in assuring quality control procedures are performed. Maintains responsibility for adherence to applicable codes. What you'll need Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain licensure as a PE in other states where Waggoner practices, within 90 days. 7+ years of related engineering and design experience Certifications applicable to civil engineering Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to the practice of engineering and the implementation of public works infrastructure projects. Proficient in design using MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Geopak and Open Roads, and other DOT approved software. Advanced knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
