This role involves investigative work in the field, office, and lab to determine the root cause of failures mainly related to the building's skeleton (structural elements) and skin (building envelope). The Forensic Structural Engineer will take a hands-on approach to engineering, working in the field, testing facility and office. * Office work may include task coordination, data compilation and interpretation, cost estimates, health & safety plan preparation, report writing, regulatory file reviews, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget management, and establishment of subcontracts.
The successful candidate will be involved in interpreting and evaluating field and analytical data in order to prepare engineering designs, permit applications, and construction-related documents. Environmental remediation design tasks, including site assessments and soil remediation design, are also a part of this exciting role. This position will require travel and field work. Field work will require regional business travel. A few times per year, travel will be required within the U.S. for one to four weeks at a time. Estimated travel is up to 25% during the first two years, with travel reduced with career growth. Travel expenses are reimbursable.
