* This position will be responsible for completing basic engineering drafting and design tasks.
* Uses AutoDesk Civil 3D, ArcGIS, and other engineering-related software programs to develop technically accurate and high-quality deliverables.
* Assist with field tasks as necessary, such as erosion control Inspections.
* Aid in development of stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and construction plans while under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
* Promotes, utilizes, and supports quality assurance and quality control processes to improve the quality of deliverables and reduce design errors and omissions.
* Ability to research, learn and apply written design standards, regulations, code compliance, and permit requirements and applies them to design projects.
* Assists with simple design calculations, calculates quantities, and aids in preparing cost estimates.
* Performs tasks within the assigned work-hour budget.

Requirements/Preferences

* Associates or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or other technical discipline preferred.
* Zero (0) to four (4) years job-related experience.
* Desire to learn and flexibility to help with a wide variety of office and field tasks.
* Possess strong independent problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
* Proficient in AutoDesk Civil 3D or ability to quickly learn productive routines.
* Proficiency in ArcGIS, Hydraflow Hydrographs, and other civil related software experience preferred.

The Civil Engineer I - Traffic/ITS, is responsible for leading field inventory for traffic analysis and design, traffic data collection programs, traffic analysis and studies, technical reports, traffic modeling and simulation, traffic demand forecast and models, transportation management plan and traffic engineering design including traffic signal layout and timing, intersection design, pavement markings and striping, signing and traffic control plans .You will leverage your engineering knowledge and skills to manage the preparation of engineering plans, calculations, and reports, technical specifications, and construction estimates and schedules. You will have the opportunity to instruct and guide junior engineers in the development of engineering reports and analyses.

Most days will be spent in the office leading traffic analysis and/or preparation of engineering designs including, traffic signals, timing plans, traffic control plans and pavement markings plans.

On some days, you will make field visits to project sites to review, investigate, and document existing infrastructure conditions, program, operate, and manage traffic control and transportation technology devices, or provide construction support services for on-going transportation-related construction projects.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS


Bachelor's degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering and 5 - 7 years of progressive traffic engineering experience. A Master's degree in Engineering is preferred. Professional Engineering license (PE) in New Jersey and/or New York is required. A Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is highly desirable. Ability to interact with coworkers and clients at different levels. Excellent communication skills, written, and verbal are required. Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.) and the ability to utilize CAD software including AutoCAD and MicroStation. Experience with traffic engineering analysis software such as HCS and Synchro is required. Experience with VISSIM, CORSIM, SIDRA is highly desirable.


COMPENSATION


The salary range for this position is $81,500 - $95,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.

General Description

CAD operator with experience in civil engineering work related to the design and construction of transportation Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). Job functions include preparing roadway profile and cross sections, grading plans, quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and roadway design plans with the use of computer aided drafting and design (CADD). Developing specifications and bid documents, coordinating with regulatory agencies to obtain permits and engaging with project managers, support staff, utility providers, and other entities, as necessary for timely project completion as instructed by a licensed engineer

Essential Job Functions

* Organizes, prepares and completes construction roadway design plans with the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D software and by applying the design criteria, policies and procedures specified in the Florida Design Manual (FDM) and/or Manual of Uniform Minimum Standards for Design, Construction and Maintenance (Florida Greenbook).
* Performscomplexengineering/geometriccalculationsinthedevelopmentofproject design.
* Developsalignmentandgradeincludinghorizontalcurvesandverticalcurvesand develops special designs, as required for intersections, profile grades and other roadway design components with minimal supervision.
* Determinesbiditems,associatedquantities,andcompilesquantitysummaries.
* Prepares specification and bid documents.
* Develops and updates project schedules.
* PerformsQualityControlreviewsofdeliverablessubmittedbyconsultants,permit reviews and Local Agency Program (LAP) reviews, as required.
* Participatesat publicmeetings, workshops,and internalstaff meetings.
* Assistsinfieldreviewsandfieldevaluation,datacollectionandcustomerservice requests documentation.
* Coordinates,asnecessary,withprojectmanagers,supportstaff,utilityproviders, permitting agencies and other entities for the timely project completion.
* Trains staff on AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
* Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Competency in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D for roadway design.
* Knowledgeofconcepts,terminologies,designprinciplesandtheanalyticaltechniques that apply to transportation engineering.
* Familiar with the FDM and Florida Greenbook standards.
* Ability to read and interpret complex engineering plans, aerial photos and maps.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other County staff, consultants, engineers, and citizens.
* Ability to receive instructions and execute in an effective manner.
* Ability to use Office Suite software.
* Ability to productively operate AutoCAD Civil 3D, scientific calculator, and related office equipment.
* Skilled in planning, organizing and managing multiple work assignments.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Associate degree in Computer Drafting or a related field and one (1) year of full involvement in computer drafting (road design or site plan preparation) ORgraduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and three (3) years' of experience of full involvement in computer drafting (road design or site plan preparation).

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
