Civil/structural engineer job description

KEY RESPOSABILITIES:

• Broad and comprehensive knowledge of civil/structural engineering fundamentals and design principles including an extensive knowledge of design and drawing checking procedures.
• Maintains a detailed understanding of current applicable engineering codes and leverages that extensive knowledge to provide safe and economical designs, while also accounting for special requirements and situations related to the glass making process.
• Provides as well as directs detailed and complete analysis and calculations, general arrangement and detail drawings, specifications and complete bid packages for the civil/structural portion of projects at O-I glass container facilities.
• Provides as well as directs civil/structural input on scoping, cost estimates, design and construction package generation for O-I glass container projects. Structural responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, building modifications, equipment supports, site development and security, roadways, railroad lines and site drainage related items
• Broad and comprehensive knowledge of the financial impact of design choices on project budgets.
• Provides new approaches to solving complex problems and identifying innovative opportunities by using sound judgment and civil/structural related experience.
• Provides significant guidance and input to the regional Civil/Structural resource teams as well as within the corporate civil/structural group.
• Provides leadership to teams of other engineers and designers, as required.
• Ensure the safety in every work performed by contractors under his responsibility .;
• Providing guidance, assistance, advice and comments to subcontractors on civil construction matters.
• Check compatibility and approval of documents and drawings from different vendors in order to ensure the success of projects .
• Elaborate technical specifications for equipment and systems compliant with technical, safety and O-I Standards and best engineering practices.
• Prepares descriptive memorials for contracting services.
• Support other disciplines such as electrical and mechanical.
• Know and apply the technical standards relevant to your area of expertise.
• Support Procurement Team checking technical proposals and providing any technical information needed.
• Ensure that the project documentation is tracked, updated, organized.
• Provide mentoring and coaching on 3D CAD design.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
• The Civil/Structural Engineer will report directly to the Regional Process Area Manager
• Secondary reporting responsibilities to Project Manager of the plant construction team

System One is currently seeking a Remote Civil/Structural Transmission Line Engineer 1 on a 12 month contract position.
Transmission Line Engineer Responsibilities:

+ Support global transmission projects performing design engineering and analysis of transmission line work.

+ Collect and assimilate data for engineering work.

+ Perform research and prepare calculations in accordance with company and industry standards.

+ Develop recommendations for equipment and materials. Understand and work successfully within budget, project schedule, and quality requirements.

+ May assist with providing guidance to engineering team members.

+ Maintain positive client relations understanding client interests and drivers through effective communication with the project team.

+ May assist with business development activities

Transmission Line Engineer Requirements:

+ Experience with the design of utility-scale electrical transmission systems Structural design of transmission steel and wood structures and their foundations

+ Experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, LPile, MFAD, Sag10 =

+ Basic structural steel and concrete experience using 3D analysis and design software

+ Solid experience using EXCEL or similar spreadsheets and MathCAD design templates

+ Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline

+ Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.

We are seeking an Junior Substation Civil/Structural Engineer with 0-2 years of experience with a utility and/or utility consulting company doing design engineering to join our team in Chicago, IL. The candidate must have a strong educational background in design of steel structures, concrete structures, geotechnical engineering, and foundations.Experience with substation structure design, rigid bus design, foundation design, site development, oil spill containment design, and design of retaining walls, design of masonry control shelters, and fire-walls is a plus. This position will be direct design of the aforementioned civil/structural design components in support of the development of bid/construction packages for substation projects. Candidate will primarily perform design calculations and develop construction grade engineering design drawings on a regular basis, under the supervision of a licensed civil engineer. Site-visits to client substation facilities are expected to be part of the work, along with occasional travel for client meetings and industry related events. Candidate must comply with quality control and safe work practices and maintain compliance with project scope, schedule and budget expectations. This position will be a member of a design team comprised of engineers, designers, and drafting technicians.

Qualifications

• Bachelors of Science (BS) degree in Civil-Structural Engineering and 0-2 years of experience

• EIT Preferred

• Experience with Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint & Mathcad software

• Experience with STAAD.Pro, FAD, SAFE, SAG10, and LPile software, (preferred)

• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Microstation and Civil 3D software preferred

• Strong analytical and technical writing skills

• Team player with ability to communicate with clients and staff

Pay Range:Pay Range $44,200.00 - $68,000.00 - $91,800.00
