Claflin University is a historically black (HBCU) Methodist university in Orangeburg, South Carolina that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in an intimate and picturesque setting. Claflin offers more than 30 undergraduate majors and a handful of graduate degrees, spanning subjects such as business, education, mathematics, humanities and more. There are also degree completion programs offered through the division of professional and continuing studies. All students participate in the first-year experience of freshman college. Through this transitional first-year program, students take foundational courses and have an opportunity to meet other freshman as well as upperclassmen in Clafin's tight-knit community. Throughout a student's education at Clafin, he or she has access to various student services including tutoring, career development, counseling, financial aid offerings if eligible and numerous services offered through TRIO programs. These include upward bound and additional academic support. Students are encouraged to live on campus in one of the beautifully designed dormitories so that they may take advantage of such services as well as participation in campus organizations, clubs and other activities.Claflin University has been around for a long time.
