The Manager, Medicare Claims, oversees end-to-end claims services for provider segments, meeting business goals. What You'll Do
Streamline shared processing to reduce management by exception
Set operational process to address market trends, BCBSNC capabilities and customer demand
Manage accounting and financial reporting functions in support of the Finance Division including overseeing the gathering, preparation, analysis, and reconciliation of financial data to ensure compliance with accepted accounting principles and standards.
Participate in projects to improve and/or facilitate claims processing, recovery, and accounting functions.
Manage financial recovery activities including refunds and collections
Manage team leads and staff by efficiently driving work volume to keep high level of utilization and engagement in the group
Resolve complex claims appeal by coordinating with different stakeholders for certain high value claims
Collaborate with Audit and Payment Integrity to sustain a pre-determined level of accuracy and quality
Design and develop tools and techniques for improvements. Identifies needed process and procedural changes which will result in improved customer satisfaction.
Serve as Medicare Claims Subject Matter Expert and single point of contact for performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
Represent Claims Operations on monthly CMS calls with CMS Account manager answering questions, providing status updates and expertise routinely and on demand.
Ability to engage as requested by Compliance with regulatory entities, especially CMS on monthly calls and serve as an internal point of contact to prepare feedback on issues under CMS review.
Use good judgement in understanding issues and work with compliance to prepare for discussions.
Ability to represent claims as a knowledgeable SME.

General Summary:Minimum starting hourly rate is $22.60
This is an entry level position within the Voluntary Benefits Claims Organization. This position is responsible for the thorough, fair, objective, and timely adjudication of voluntary benefits claims in conjunction with providing technical expertise regarding applicable regulations. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service and interacts on a regular basis with employees, employers, health care providers and other specialized internal resources.
Incumbents in this role are considered trainees and are assigned a formal mentor for 6-12 months until they are assessed as capable of independent work. Incumbents are primarily responsible for learning and developing the skills, knowledge, and behaviors necessary to successfully adjudicate assigned claims, in accordance with our claims philosophy and policies and procedures.
Incumbent must demonstrate the ability to effectively manage an assigned caseload, exercise discretion and independent judgment, and appropriately render timely claim decisions while demonstrating strong customer service prior to movement to the exempt level claims specialist role.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain organizational service standards on all assigned claims demonstrating success in developing and implementing effective strategies to manage a caseload of varying size and complexity.
Develop an understanding and working knowledge of Voluntary Benefits for Unum and Colonial Life, including products, policies, procedures, and contracts.
Develop an understanding of the applicable contract/policy definitions and relevant provisions, clauses, exclusions, riders, and waivers, as well as regulatory and statutory requirements for claim products administered.
Develop skill set to determine appropriate risk management strategies through analyzing and applying technical and complex contractual knowledge (policies and provisions) to ensure appropriate eligibility requirements, liability decisions, and benefits payee.
Develop problem solving skills by demonstrating analytical and logical thinking resulting in the timely and accurate adjudication of a variety of simple to complex voluntary benefits claims.
Develop a working knowledge of systems needed for claims adjudication.
Provide excellent customer service and independently respond to all inquiries within service guidelines.
Responsible for timely and accurate claims review, initiation and completion of appropriate claim validation activities, and referrals/notifications to other areas (i.e., medical assessments, billing, etc.) as appropriate.
Produce objective, clear documentation and technical rationale for all claim determinations and demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate determinations while ensuring compliance with Voluntary Benefits procedures and all legal requirements including state regulations.
Partner and coordinate file strategies utilizing specialized resources including nurses, physicians, vocational rehabilitation and assessing medical documentation, when appropriate.
Ensure a timely and well communicated transfer process when transitioning integrated claims across lines of business, ensuring a coordinated and continuous claims experience for customers.
Be familiar with specialized workflow requirements and performance standards for any assigned customers.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications:
4-year degree preferred or equivalent work experience
Ability to develop Voluntary Benefits product knowledge and apply a best-in-class service experience
Medical background, voluntary benefits claims and/or disability management experience preferred
Possess strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in increasingly complex claim adjudication decisions, including initial decision and ongoing medical management.
Able to effectively utilize a broad spectrum of resources, materials, and tools needed to assist with the decision-making process
Strong service and quality orientation.
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with claimants, employers, medical resources, attorneys, accountants, brokers, sales representatives, etc.
Demonstrated ability to operate with a sense of urgency and make balanced decisions with the highest degree of integrity and fairness.

Phoenix Loss Control (PLC) is a US-based business services provider in the cable, telecom, and utilities sector. PLC's core service is outside plant damage investigation, recovery, and prevention. Across the US and parts of Canada, we help our clients recover the costs of third-party damage to their infrastructure, such as underground fiber optic or gas lines. PLC currently employs over 140 people, servicing some of the largest cable and telecoms operators (e.g., Comcast, Spectrum, AT&T, and Google). PLC is currently aggressively expanding its business and looking for talented and energetic people to bring onboard to help drive growth.
POSITION SUMMARY
Outside Plant Damage (OPD) costs our clients over 30 million annually. Field investigators are needed to collect, access, and report these damages. This is a part-time, on-call contract job to help support our clients with damage recovery. For our field investigators, each day and every investigation is different. We need inquisitive, self-driven individuals who are comfortable rolling up their sleeves and working in a constantly changing, dynamic environment.
Duties
Conduct on-site field investigations
Write detailed but concise investigation reports using diverse sources of information, types of evidence, witness statements, and costing estimates
Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of local and state statutes, laws, and regulations for underground and aerial cables and utility service lines
Remain prepared and willing to respond to damage calls within a timely manner
Complete damage investigations within 7 days and then work with and support our claims managers to complete the investigation and begin the recovery process
Respond to damages same day if received during business hours (if not, first response following day)
Accurately record all time, mileage, and other associated specific items
Requirements
Interpersonal skills to gather information and conduct field interviews with involved parties including contractors and technicians, witnesses, law enforcement, and possible damagers
Smartphone to gather photos, videos, and other information while conducting investigations
Computer, with high-speed internet access, to upload and download reports, research cases, and to interact with our claims system and other databases and portals
Exceptional attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to operate independently and prioritize while adhering to timelines
Strong and objective analytical skills
Valid driver's license, current insurance, and reliable vehicle with ability to respond to damages at any time
