Clark College and Atlanta University through consolidation preserved the best of the past and present and "Charted a Bold New Future." Clark Atlanta University was created on July 1, 1988.
Clark Atlanta University (CAU) was founded in 1988 with the consolidation of Clark College and Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia.
The first President of Clark Atlanta University was Doctor Thomas W. Cole, Jr., who served concurrently as the President of both Atlanta University and Clark College prior to the 1988 consolidation.
The two consolidated in 1988 to form Clark Atlanta University.
United States News & World Report ranked Clark Atlanta University 13th in the Top 20 of its 2020 listing of America's Best HBCUs.
